| Outgoing e-mail on MSN
not sure if this is the right forum but here is goes.
At work we use 1 & 1 for our e-mail and website. One of our executives has Qwest DSL w/ MSN. Recently he hasn't been able to send e-mails from Outlook through the MSN outgoing server have they changed something with in the last week? |

| This would be best handled in the Qwest forum (if there is one, if not a DSL forum). It is possible, and likely that they are blocking port 25 outbound which has become pretty common lately. This has been done to thwart spammers and it is possible that they did it in the last week or so - there was some press about this type of thing a few days ago...

MSN doesn't have an smtp server, they use an http server, so he wasn't sending it out through msn. |

| Is MSN still using some weird authentication on that server or did they switch to a standard one? I've never been able to get any software that does SMTP AUTH to actually try to give it.
I've found FreePOPs invaluable. It's a proxy that converts POP3 into all the weird webmail stuff that various providers use. www.freepops.org (No, I"m not affiliated with it in any way, just a happy customer.) |

| reply to huntermcdole my understanding is that those old pop3 and smtp servers didn't work anymore. You can setup an msn account in outlook and outlook express, but it's an http server with the address of »oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata and outlook requires outlook connecter to get it to work right. |

| reply to huntermcdole i like to think of msn premium as qwest.net internet basic with a ride-on pretty MSN backdrop... outgoing mail from outlook/OE (from my understanding) will be routed through qwest.net mail servers (see pppoa usrnm/password for authentication)...which will not allow access unless you either A--have qwest.net as isp -w- internet basic and a static IP, or b-- have qwest.net -w- internet prime... i ended up going with prime... |

huntermcdole Premium join:2005-08-01 Tucson, AZ | reply to huntermcdole it was for a relay, I am using anotehr smtp server now. The web hosting we have provides a non standerd port for smtp. |
