| How to setup your Boinc cache
It seems that a lot of users don't know that they can setup a cache of WU's in Boinc. This is very useful during outages so you'll have Wu's to run.
Here's how:
1. Go to your account page.
2. Click on "Edit preferences" at the bottom of the page.
3. Scroll down to the "Network usage" section. There you will see the following:
"Connect to network about every"
(determines size of work cache; maximum 10 days)
4. If you want to increase this value, click the "Edit preferences" link and enter the value you desire. Maximum 10 days. Mine is set to 8 and it kept me crunching throughout all the outages.
5. Click the "Update preferences" button and you're set.

| Glad you pointed that out to people. One thing though, you generally do not need as large a queue as you did under classic. The advised max is half of the shortest deadline divided by the number of projects. For SETI only that means 7 days or less. Personally I am attached to so many projects that 0.1 is too long sometimes. |

| In my case I noticed during that long outage we had a while back that with a 7 day cache I came close to running out of WU's. Since I'm only running Seti and came close to running out I changed mine to 8 days. However, when Version 5 came out they finally have a very accurate scheduler that looks at your average and computes daily WU requirement regardless of how many projects you have running. Until Berkeley gets all the bugs out of their servers I recommend a higher than normal cache.

I've set my cache to 6 days. Could go more, we've seen that everytime Berkeley gets severely backlogged, they extend the deadline for returning wu. |

Just curious. With this latest outage how is everyone's cache holding up? I think that Sat_Man was correct on setting the cache a little longer than normal. So far I'm doing ok on work units and should be fine for a few more days. Especially since it's difficult to tell when they will be up and running full tilt again. So many people are hurting and will hammer the servers once they do come back online It's going to be difficult to actually get any new work.

Yep I followed these steps last time, and I'm doing fine on all my machines, expect one. That one doesn't get a network connect all day so it is dangerously low. I'll probably run out late tonight.
