| reply to raykim777 Mine are bad again West Coast is ok but beyond that really bad speed. I used to get 3000 down (when the cap was 3000) around the clock to the East Coast as well as the West. Now, East Coast speeds ever since the upgrade to 5000 down have really sucked. I think most of the reason is the lack of use of ATDN routing now and insteading using Level 3 too much.
I even get horrible speeds now on the OOL FTP test. I used to get 365-75KB\Sec transfer rate around the clock when our cap was 3000. Now, I am lucky to get 200KB/Sec transfer rate. Yet my speed on West Coast tests is usually 4700-4800. I was so embarrassed when Nikon in New York had me download a big file around 10PM about a week ago. It was 82MB and downloaded at 85KB/Sec. Just pitiful. I don't pay full price for RR because of this problem which Oceanic readily admits but doesn't fix. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy." I noticed,,, as soon as it got cold outside, my SNR dropped a tad, my downstream signal dropped about 7db, and somehow my upstream signal is lower then ever, that doesn't make make sense to me. Anyone have any explanation. I'm all ears |

1 edit | reply to RolteC Signal should not change much if any due to weather. 0.5 db/mv at most(accounting for how well copper conducts in extreme cold). I would get RR on the phone right now and don't let them BS you about the signal. The readings you showed stink badly and in such a bad line there could be distortion issues as well as noise out of normal spectrum in the line that may not be reflected in S/N. It just gives an overall noise level, but not the whole picture on leakage, This is a warning flag, get RR down there now. You will definitely have more speed and the issue is obviously on your line or on the pole. Should be an easy fix and use the yes sir call back method if the tech you call is a total moron. This should be an easy fix-a residential one, not network. As for me, I'm almost in top of my class in Albany RR division with most recent reading 4.23 mbps(yes Albany is a performance dropout) Speed is good for Albany RR and my pings are good to RR routers. My major problem is not with RR, it's with ATDN and Level 3 routers as I've tried to state in a few posts to let Albany know where the problem lies. Any input on dealing with it appreciated! These routers from first hop past RR are showing very significant packet loss on Pingplotter. RR has been doing maintainance on lines close to here, but here are my modem stats.
Power Level: Received: 2.3 dBmV Transmitted: 50.0 dBmV
Received SNR: 33.7 dB
As a footnote, a line that's not grounded right will draw LESS current than a good line, may explain your very low upstream power but bad down |

| reply to raykim777 As far as you go Help me please they are so so as long as they aren't bouncing all over, they shouldn't be giving you any trouble. If they bounce too much it's a symptom of an open line or a line that's improperly grounded, but if it's like that all the time, you should be fine. Now for the real post, I tweaked some settings yesterday to help with packet loss and got slightly better speed but we have today A new record!! Especially for evening. I took this at about 9:13 PM 4701 down, 356 up. Seems RR and level 3 were actually listening to me as I contacted both yesterday. Check it out toward the bottom of this page! »/archive/rr.com?1=1&p=6 |
