Re: Cingular refuses to keep my old ATT Wireless p

OMG!!! I know exactly what you mean.. I switched to T-Mobile... the best that is available... I am so upset right now that I am in tears. I was a loyal ATT customer for many years and had a plan that was untouchable. The plan that I repeatedly continued to re-sign was contracted at $99. per month, unlimited days, nights, weekends, long distance and free roaming; I loved it. I was so upset when the takeover from Cingular arrived in So Cal causing me to lose my reception/service. I could not hold a call for more than three minutes, and when I was on that call it was filled with static. Initially I was not upset with the takeover, at least not until I lost my service... My phone was used all day for business calls; I am an account executive that is out of the office the majority of my day, so as you can imagine being on the phone with clients... it was quite upsetting to have to call them back three or four times to have a ten minute conversation about business. Ugh!! Anyhoo... I am dealing with the collection agency for the early termination fee....

When I first started experiencing the problems, I called CS and they told me that I could keep my same plan and that the problems were from the fact that they were shutting down ATT towers to put up more Cingular towers...they also wanted me to pay an activation fee to change over to Cingular, and because I had just resigned my 2 year contract with ATT 6 months prior, they required that i purchase a new phone at FULL price, mind you, I had just paid $300. 6 mths prior for a new phone that could not be used. I was shocked and asked them who was the Einstein that came up with that great marketing plan????

I feel so frustrated, manipulated and helpless. If anybody wants to contact me about being part of a class action lawsuit... please count me in!!! LgitteLL@yahoo.com

Part of the problem is that people do not consult another party/do research before making decisions involving technologies that they are not fully aware of.

Sorry to hear you did not end up well after the merger. You unfortunately have no recourse since this is a free market per se. Due to one company buying another, Cingular did not have to entirely meet the terms of your previous AT&T contract. Eventually they will be able to completely pull the plug on those who hang on to TDMA/AMPS. I still use it, but I doubt it will be active forever.

They do have to meet the terms of the previous AT&T contract, the problem is just that the contract did not guarantee good service.

The two are one in the same(!) Because the contract did not guarantee good or consistent (=perfect) service/reception, they can do what they want with the holdovers essentially. Honor their plans but hold them hostage to poor call reception in some areas which were formerly OK.
