WRT55AG and DNS 1

I have been unable to configure my WRT55AG at home to not sent its IP address as the first DNS. The Linksys folks told me to change the default IP address (192.168.1.1) to something else as it might be conflicting with my Westell modem, but I don't think this is the case. If I change the IP of the router to say 192.168.5.500 this same IP is given as the first DNS to all the connected computers by the DHCP service of the router. I also tried entering static IPs in the DHCP setup page of the router for all the DNSs, but it still does the same thing. This was not a problem before as my computers at home look up the subsequent DNS IP addresses supplied by my ISP (DNS 2 and DNS 3 supplied by the router) and thus are able to resolve names.

I just got a new Smartphone with wifi and it only resolves names by looking up the first DNS supplied by the router. At home, I can only access hosts in the internet with my phone by using IP addresses. I verified this by connecting the phone successfully via wifi to a Linksys BEFSX41 at work and to multiple hotstpots. The phone resolves names with no problems. Using ipconfig from my laptop at work I also verified that the BEFSX41 does not send its IP address as one of the DNSs.

My WRT55AG is using the latest firmware available at Linksys for this router. (version 1.04 dated 06/30/03). I read through the forums looking for an answer and the closes I got was something about stopping the DNSMASQ process in my router. But I don't know how to do that.

Any hints?

Thanks...

Solved my problem. Downgraded from firmware version 1.04 dated 06/2003 to 1.02 dated 03/2003 which is available at the Linksys support site. Btw, the Linksys site is wrong. It lists version 1.20 instead of 1.02. I'm happy. I guess there is progress in going backwards. I'm hoping that I didn't loose any functionality.
