| adding admin security for folder on limited access on my home network i am running the users on a limited account. for my ibm thinkpad there is a battery monitor/handler on the taskbar. i need to run this program as admin in order to change the speed. i would normally right click as admin and add the user to the rights folder and give him permission as needed. at home on my workgroup i need to share a folder to make one private. how can i add this security so i can run this one program as admin and not everything else. thanks

| Either you're using FAT32, which does not have any notion of file security, or else you're using the so-called 'Simple File Sharing' mode, which hides the notion of file security.
If XP Home, I believe you cannot disable simple file sharing. Or at least, there's no UI to do that. I have no idea what happens if you poke at the equivalent setting in the registry. | |

| In any Explorer window, go to the menu and choose Tools>Folder Options and then go to the View tab.
In that dialog, it is the last thing listed.

| it looks like it finally took. The reason i am doing this is so i can allow non administrators to change the battery power settings on Ibm thinkpads. the test machine is my t41. i have set the folder
C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities
to have the main users have admin privledges for that folder. i thought this would allow them to change what the speed of the pc is running at. i need to either find another program that allows the user to change the power settings as a limited user. I also am looking for a program that would allow me to manually set the speed of the processor. i have tried to run my pc at full 1600 mhz but on battery it is only 800 when i set the power program to full system performance. i can disable all power settings and get this to work but i would like to change it like i do now. | |
