nez, where you'd you take this. i may want to ck it out..
Roy, just on a man-made canal in Coppell. The exact location is on the east side of Heartz Road between Sandy Lake and Parkway.

I thought we just had Mallards and a few variations but it seems we have a few other types in the mix. I only saw one of these at the time.

Thank you and all the more reason for me to get those new books as this is not in the one I currently have.

I think he was a loner among a ton of Mallards and a bunch of Northern Shovelers that have recently arrived.

This is a male Gadwall. I suspect that he is molting into his breeding plummage, as he has a bit of a mixture of breeding/non-breeding characteristics. Still, they are a very plain bird at all times of the year, and I am sure are commonly confused for the female of another species. The keys for me are the fine patterning on the sides and front, as well as the black tail region. The males get the black bill for the breeding season.

I'm sure this is just a juvenile or female duck of some sort but so far I can't confirm that. Can someone please help?
