| Thinking of starting a Priest
Strictly healing. No intention of any major DPS as I hear Shadow Priests can do.
What stats should I be looking for?
Intellect/Stamina?
or
Stamina/Spirit?
or
Combination of all 3?
If I am way off base, feel free to put me back on track.
Thanks! |

| that's what i've got going now. going shadow until the high lvl instances. i'll then spec out to holy. be prepared for tons of whispers when you get into instance running like what was posted in an earlier thread. there is never enough priest on for every group. hell, im suprised priests dont charge sometimes. btw, there is a shadow priest lvling guide around this forum somewhere. |

Spec shadow for your first 59 levels, then you can go holy/disc. Spi really isn't that important at low levels because you're soloing and in small fights. I'd go Int/Sta while lvling. -- WoW PvP Warsong: Horde Guild Manic | Tauren Shaman: Turkina | Undead Rogue: Seyla | Orc Warrior: Babbat |

"Stay away from the voodoo, mon."
"A priest without mana is a dead priest."
In other words, Int is your number one attribute (and please, stay away from the voodoo ). I'm not that picky between Stam and Spirit, though what I've been doing lately because of the 5-second rule is favoring a combination of Stamina and mana regeneration (enchants, rings, trinkets, Nightfin soup, etc.).
I agree with red. Leveling up would be a lot harder without shadow talents. Heck, you have to put 11 talent points into shadow just to get Mind Flay.
Shadow priests as primary healers abound throughout high-level instances such as Scholo, Strat, xBRS, and Zul'Gurub. From what I've seen I don't think the Shadow/Holy debate even starts until you get to Molten Core.

| reply to Cleric4 If you plan on soloing don't underestimate Spirit. Spirit can be > intelligence for soloing. As a shadow priest you can take spirit tap and gain 100% to your spirit for 15 seconds, 50% bonus if casting. If you have low spirit this doesn't help, but with a lot of spirit you will regen your mana back much quicker and be able to keep rolling.
DoT, Shield, Wand... fear... wand... retarget. Later on you'll toss a second SW:P on there. With high Int/Sta I found myself drinking a lot between fights, and at low levels you'll prefer this, but as you get higher I found I preferred Spirit over Int.
Of course better yet is go holy and get a mage to level with you. His AoE + your heals = easy xp. -- Check out Downfall a Detroit local band. |

| reply to Cleric4 I made the mistake of going Holy from the beginning with my priest. I mainly stuck to instances though and working in groups. But when I found myself out on a solo quest, I just couldnt kill anything.
Remember your role is a healer and it doesnt matter your spec. You will get kicked from groups if you tell them you are not healing because you are shadow. -- World of Warcraft, BBR Alliance Militia on Bleeding Hollow Realm |

I was heartened to see that a battlegrounds buddy has made General (Marshal) as a disc/holy priest. I thought that saying goodbye to shadow would mean goodbye to battlegrounds, but she has proved me wrong, and in this case I'm very happy to be wrong.
I asked her and she said that she has been disc/holy the entire time, save for a brief experiment with holy/disc.
