[ Brighthouse] Free Upgrade for 10/1 package ??

I'm Back on Brighthouse now for a few months (Was with Rapid-Sys / Verizon DSL reseller) and the 384k upload is just not enough after having 768k with DSL for 2 Years

So, I call up Brighthouse and ask what would be the cost to go to the 10/1 package. I'm on the 32.99/6 month promo rate and want to see if after changing to 10/1 if I revert back to 5/384 If I would get the old 32.99 rate again.

The rep, cheerfully said:

1) For 10/1 rates , my charges will go up 11.92 and will not go up after the 6 month promo ends

2) If I do go back to the 32.99 5/384 package, I'd get the 32.99 as a regular rate (even after the 6 month promo rate)

Mind you, I wasn't asking for this and its great to have 10/1 for the regular 5/384 rate so I just wanted to pass this on.

My guess is either I got a nice rep OR Brighthouse is getting ready to change the tiers for Tampabay.

Maybe someone else can see if they can get this sweet deal?

I just ran speed test from »ciseweb100.cise-nsf.gov:7123/

Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 981.46Kb/s
running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 9.61Mb/s

I'm waiting for them to make it so I can add the 15/2 speeds to my home connection without having digital phone. If they don't change this soon I will just switch to Verizon Fios

Getting 15/2 without Digital phone isn't going to happen, as it takes the special Arris Digital phone modem To be able to recieve the 15/2 Level of service. That's why it's only offered to those with the Digital Combo Plus, It's a reward for the most dedicated customers, they figure if you're willing to pay $150 a month you should get a reward.

Re: [ Brighthouse] Free Upgrade for 10/1 package ??

There are other brands of cable modems that can handles speeds greater than 10Mbs.

Optimum Online is offering speeds up to 50Mbs in certain areas of NYC and they are using Surfboard modems (SB5100) for 30Mbs speeds and other brands for 50Mbs speeds.

So you do not need to use Arris only unless you want to tie forced bundling into the issue which is a business decision and not a technical one.

See this post in part of the OOL thread:

»Optonline going to 15Mbps/30Mbps/50Mbps

'Already answered earlier in the thread, but yes, the SB4100 and anything newer (like the SB5100) are fine for both the 15/2 and 30/2 packages. 50/50 will require different equipment.'

Sorry I led you to believe it was an equipment requirement, but Brighthouse will only provision the Arris Modems for the 15/2 as far as I know. More a decision on their part. Guess it's their way of making sure only the Digital phone subscribers get the 15/2 package. Though if basic service speed goes up even that will be obsolete as the 15/2 subscribers should be increased to a higher level also. and DOCSIS 2.0 is needed for anything much faster. the Arris is still a DOCSIS 1.1 modem.

Which is part of my gripe about forced bundling of services a customer might not want.

It is a business decision on their part but since it is their network, they can make the rules any way they want and I realize if I want the service I have to abide by them.

So I needed the higher upload and went along with the program. I may not be completely happy with it but life does have its realities and overall, the service has been very reliable so except for a relatively minor detail, I am a happy customer.

I took the original poster as saying you can now get the 10/1 for the normal RR price.. or in other words without bundling everything which is ridiculous..

My co worker and I both called separately and got the same line about required bundling, Fios cant come any faster..

Re: [ Brighthouse] Free Upgrade for 10/1 package ?

Yes, I have digital cable, Basic HiDef package and use a cable card.

The Internet portion of the bill was 32.99+ taxes (6 month promotion). Now I get 10/1 for the "regular 42.99" price. This was the point. They offered me 10/1 for the 5/384 price and no longer have the 6 month its over issue.

My total bill is 84.95/month for digital cable and 10/1 with some HiDef channels. I use to have DISH, but when I got the new HiDef TV, only Brighthouse has the locals in HDTV

I'm paying less now for 10/1 and HDTV than my previous Dish with DSL combo.

Maybe I got lucky? not sure, I just thought someone else on this board might be paying the normal rate for 5/384 and could make the call to see if the 10/1 can be a free upgrade

I'm getting the full speed no issues, sweet!

Consider yourself lucky, I guess. I'm just hoping I have the option of getting 10/1 here in Orlando this year.

According to Bright House Central Florida office, there is not enough demand for higher speeds in our area of Orlando, compared to the Tampabay area. Our speeds are not scheduled to be increased. I consider this just an excuse. If Verizon was in our area and rolling out FIOS they would up the speeds. They have little competetion in Orlando so no need for them to up anything.

Re: [ Brighthouse] Free Upgrade for 10/1 package ?

Get this... A BrightHouse engineer showed up at my office this past week looking to do a survey for the install of a fiber optic-based dedicated access service. This is an Ethernet hand off and is fiber all the way to the demark. This doesn't involve cable TV service nor VoIP, just Internet access. Speeds packages are 1.5/1.5, 3/3, and 5/5. All the packages are burstable to the next highest speed package with the exception of the 5/5 which bursts to a 10/10. The 10/10 is just a little more than the price of a Sprint T1. The telcos in the Orlando area better start waking up!!!
