| left but would like to come back...
I had SBC DSL for several years. I am debating on coming back.
I need a static package (multiple IPs) and was wondering what plans are still around (or unpublished)?
6016/608 was what I had when I left around 10/2005 with 5 routable IPs....
I moved over to $RR and while my uploads on bizclass are excellent, overall the data travels all over the place much worse that with SBC....and as such, I have wild ping times and latency. It is better than normal $RR and the cust service is local, but its $PRICEY$.
I am paying $134.99 plus TAX for 5000/768 and 5 static IPs and seeing speeds of 585k down and 91k up.
Thats nice, but really starting to hurt the old pocket book.

Cant beat that!
A few questions remain...
1. Can I take advantage of any of the 'free' time for being a cable customer and going to DSL?
2. What sort of equipment do I get? - I only need a modem..not a router (I use cisco for that)...
3. Nothing is mentioned about install charges...only a waived $50 activation?
Thanks GUYS! |

| I don't have time to thoroughly research the current promo's, but, sbc has special deals for returning customers. They also have special deals for people switching from cable.
At first glance, I didn't see anything about this at the link GDM posted. I would call in and ask. The complication is that the online promo's are only if you order online, so you might want to keep that in mind when calling in. -- we're all connected |

| reply to lonebandit Looks like that year contract promo qualfies you for a "free after $79 rebate" router, which should be either a 2-wire 1701HG "gateway" or a Netopia 3346N. They appear to have dropped the "mandatory" tech install, so you're not on the hook for that either.
I'd bet that if you mentioned that you're wanting to come back from cable you'll get the three month freebie, too. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

I tried signing up for the static IP Pro package a few weeks back and was told I needed to pay the $250 "router-hand-off" fee.
I will call about this today and ask. |

Does static still require a tech to come out? If so, is it free with a 1yr commit?

| FWIW, I have always had the impression that the $250 install fee for the 6meg statics was "negotiable". 2 years ago when I ordered the 6meg static package, I ended up placing several orders (due to an order database problem). Some order takers offerred to waive the install fee (but not the tech install), others would not.
Don't know if its still true that some order takers have the discretion to waive the fee, but I suspect it is. |

join:2001-12-01 Oak Creek, WI | I talked to SBC Team Data. They absolutely will NOT waive install ($250) under any circumstances...even for a cable to DSL incoming customer.
So much for this thread
