I just uploaded it. I updated the router from the last linksys published firmware from their site. No issues I can see. All settings carried over and I did the upgrade from the router, not from the utility.

Cool about time. But why are there three different downloads? What's the difference?

I'm running the BEFSX41 V1.0. When I downloaded the 1.52.9 firmware, it downloads only 704 kbytes and the name is BEFSX41_v1[1].52.9_code,0.bin.

In trying to upgrade the firmware from 1.50.18 to this new version, the upgrade fails. If I change the name of the downloaded file to BEFSX41_v1[1].52.9_code.bin (removed ,0) the firmware upgrade installs just fine. And the BEFSX41, V1.0 runs fine.

Is this an error from the Linksys download site or am I running flakey firmware because I removed the ,0?

I notice that if I specify that I have a BEFSX41 V2.0, the Linksys download is BEFSX41_v1[1].52.9_code.bin.

I "think" I am using a V1.0. The front panel surely looks different from a new BEFSX41 on www.buy.com. I surely do not find V1.0 or V2.0 on the router or the box it came in.

Both files are byte-to-byte identical. The ",0" must be a mistake.

Re: has any 1 with a BEFSX41 tried the new firmware ?

Thanks Alim...that's a relief. I was hoping it might well be a Linksys site error.

I appear to have regained significant bandwidth with this new firmware. I was running down around 1.9 mbits and now am up to 2.8 mbits for a 3 mbit Charter pipeline cable modem connectionn.

V1.52.9B3 on DSL

I've been running it for a few days now.... Not quite long enough to say the DNS issues I had with V1.52.6 is gone, but it might be gone.

Interesting experience with Blocking by keywords and URL's..........
If I enter the name (Say doubleclick) in google, it gets blocked going out, As expected...
However, when I go to ebay, and there I expect to see inbound doubleclick entires in Wallwatcher..... but I'm not seeing them inbound... Occasionally, but not always...

Does that mean that blocking by keyword and URL is blocking INBOUND too? Not sure.....

So......

I start "Trolling for Spyware" Go to a site, and watch wallwatcher for spyware entries.... Then Run Ad-Aware to see if I was right... If I was, document the spyware name, delete it, and go back to that site and browse and confirm with another pass of Ad-Aware that that was the site that contained Spyware... Then.....
Go into Linky and enter those names in Blocking by Keyword or URL, and then back at the site to verify that they don't show in Wallwatcher.... and confirm with another pass of Ad-Aware....

It appears that once I put the name in Blocking by Keyword or URL, that I never see that name in inbound in Wallwatcher..... Does that mean that it is blocking inbound as well as outbound???

It appears so.... Not 100% effective (an occasional one sneaks in but is blocked going out)....

Other notes on Blocking by Keyword and URL:
The blocked entries are (for the most part) Not Verbose...
It will say that something matched and was blocked, but doesn't say what.... Again... Occasionally it will post verbose (indicate what was matched, but usually not).

If anyone else has been testing Blocking by Keyword or URL, I'd be interested to know if you are seeing the same or something different....

I loaded it. Both VPN tunnels working OK.

I note that wallwatcher is dropping a lot of 'invalid' TCP packets where it didn't on version 1.51.0.

All seem to be related to IM programs (running Trillian). Mostly coming in on Ports 505 and 5190.

Re: has any 1 with a BEFSX41 tried the new firmwar

Just downloaded it here as well. Of note I wanna mention the differences between v1 and v2. The v1 model has 3 lights per port while the newer v2 only has 1 light per port much like all the newer models.

I too had a funny naming scheme when downloading this firmware. I first attempted to download from v1 and the name given for download was "BEFSX41_v1.52.9_code%2C0.bin" 704kb. I slected v2 and treid to download that firmware and got "BEFSX41_v1.52.9_code.bin" also 704kb. That seemed more normal. Also when attempt the download I not only get a download box but the main browswer page changes to a "500 Servlet Exception" every time.

Of note I have had issues with downloading firmware in the recent past. I got a new RV082 router and when downloading the latest from the site I could not get it to flash. I treid different computers and it seeemed all the downloads were corrupted. I kept getting all those funny naming schemes too. I finally got Linksys to email me the updated firmware and it flashed perfectly.

And as usual waiting for Flogator to make some comments! lol

I noticed a bunch of those in wallwatcher in V1.52.6, but on the V1.52.9B3, I've seen a couple, but not a lot....

However, if memory serves me, I did not see those dropped packets at first, but they were more predominant after a few days..... Kind of like the DNS problem...

Strange thing happening with Port Forwarding:

I've got it set to forward a single port for UDP and TCP (BitTorrent) but it's blocking the TCP connections (UDP are allowed through). The GUI is set to "Both".

Look at all of these good reports! Dare I hope that Linksys has finally gotten the SX41 firmware right?

I truly hope so...although I have moved on from my SX41 I still have a soft spot for it & would love to be able to start recommending this router to people again.

That's me! lol I finally moved on several months ago. Still it'd make a great backup device if my primary fails. I'm still waiting for the serious users like flogator, d_l, etc to report their findings.
Guess we're all hoping for a breakthrough here! Maybe, just maybe Cisco/Linksys can redeem themselves. Of course it should have never taken this long.

I'm surprised . Linksys actually released a firmware. Not only that but they released a good firmware too. Since I have been running this firmware for a few days now, I just thought I could share my findings with you guys. Below is my list of bugs that I am tracking. I must admit I am pleased and impressed by this firmware.

Bugs present in 1.52.9
•UPnP is working. However, MSN Messenger may have problem establishing voice/video/file sharing session.•The QoS feature is only partially working•The bug called "No connect button in manual keying" is still present. This makes manual keying useless.•The bug called "Strange logs with VPN passthrough" is still present.•The limitation called "Filter logs do not indicate which filter number was it" is still present•The bug called "SNMP attribute sysUpTime increments 10 times too fast" is still present.
Features I use and that work with 1.52.9
•DDNS•SNMP•Built-in VPN End-point•VPN Passthrough•UPnP (well as I said above UPnP works but MSN still has problems)•Local Loopback (as known as NAT Redirection)•NTP Servers (for router time synchronization)•Logging•Email alerts•Passes grc.com and securityspace.com audit tests for full stealth mode•NetBIOS through Built-in VPN End-Point•IDENT port can be stealth•Can do tracert/traceroute•Basic time filters•Can access long URL without crashing the router•Can set some web filters without crashing the router (tested Java, ActiveX and Cookies)
I must admit that I am very impressed with this firmware. Yet not perfect but impressive. For me, the remaining show stopper is this MSN Messenger problem.

The firmware offers the following hidden pages that I provided for your own pleasure:
Additionally, again for your own pleasure, the firmware hides the following page content but are not accessible. There is nothing anyone can do about other than taking a peek at them.

Re: has any 1 with a BEFSX41 tried the new firmware ?

V1.52.9B3 on DSL
As posted above, I'm testing Blocking by Keywords and URL's.
I'm getting more non-verbose indication of blocks, and a few more Wallwatcher indications of incoming spyware stuff, and a very rare Invalid TCP packet statements...
Haven't encountered any DNS issues..

But... This is the first Version higher than V1.45.7 that has lasted this long under test!!!

While I was typing this, I was also running a pass of Ad-Aware.... NO SPYWARE FOUND!!

Would like to know which keyword was matched... (More Verbose responses in Logs).... But it definately warrents longer testing!!!

I'm curious if you are testing a different version. You keep posting 1.52.9B3. I have not installed it yet so not sure what version shows up on router. Anyone?

There is only one 1.52.9. I suspect that Jan is referring to 1.52.9B3 because of the file name: BEFSX41_v1.52.9_003_code.bin.
