Re: Disable ping request on Westell B90 Modem

Thanks. This worked great.

Any other custom rules in or out thatI should specify for security?

Thanks again

Firewall -> Edit -> User Defined Firewall Rules -> Inbound
and add this to the bottom and save:

RulesDropICMP
drop protocol icmp >> alert 4 [ICMP Message To WAN IP]
end

ICMP is listed in the list of services. When I add it to the list of of active forwards it shows up, but does not provide me with any way to configure it.

Pinging the WAN IP still returns a response.

Any thoughts?

The firmware upgrade has to be obtained from the ISP.
Call up tech support for your ISP and see if they will send you a copy of the latest firmware by email.

Verizon Online just released a few updates for some models of Westell modems as mentioned in the VOL forum but they will only work with Verizon issued modems.

As for turning off ping, look under Services and see if you can find anything there. Ping is also ICMP (0) so if you turn that off, ping is turned off too as they are the same thing just different names.

@rr.com

I have a Westell B90-Versalink327W modem that was provided to me by my DSL company. It also has built in wireless & routing capabilities.

I have gone through the menus, but cant find a way to disable ping requests
on the WAN port. Never seen a router/NAT device that didn't have it. Does
this one? Anyone know how to do this.

Also any idea how to get a firmware upgrade, the Westell site doesn't list
this modem (maybe because it OEM).

Thanks
