Re: Verizon DSL is a Disaster In My Area

Unfortunately Verizon is one of the worst ISP's.. if your tx/rx speed is ok between other times this could be related to your ISP's atm interface being maxxed out from other users at the same time, remember that your sharing your bandwidth with everyone else on the same switch, or perhaps.. maybe it's an application running in the backround of your PC that you don't notice. Check your router stats.

Maybe see if DSLExtreme would be better? They resell Verizon, but their tech support is better from what I hear.

so about 6 months ago I started to have major slowdowns from about 4:00 P.M until 1:00 A.M. During this time period I was getting about 700 Kb/s on a line that is supposed to be 3 Mb/s. However, I was getting 2600 Kb/s away from this time period. I lived with it for a while because I didn't need the fast speed because I was usually doing homework during the time period anyways. I live a heavily populated area near UCLA so I sorta expected slowdowns. However, about 3 months ago the speed started getting slower, even earlier in the afternoon so I decided to call. We went through a bunch of troubleshooting on my side (which I knew was B.S.) and after everything failed they said they would send somebody out. The problem was never solved. Well about a month ago the speeds from about 2:00 P.M. until 12:00 A.M. steadily decline and as I type (8:30 P.M), the verizon infospeed webpage shows that I am getting 240 Kb/s. I called verizon tech support and I told them that the problem is on their side and after they tried to bullshit me for a while I finally got it out of the guy that it was indeed their problem and their was no way it could be fixed because of the number of subscribers in the area. I was pissed and told them I would cancel the service (after I gave them a mouthfull). Unfortunately, there are no other real providers in the area (westwood) so I don't know what to do. Do you guys know any way that I could somehow get my speeds to increase? if I called the tech support, could I ask them to do something helpful to try to solve the problem?
