But I doubt MS would require you to mess with partitions if this program is meant to make things simpler Did you read the links I posted, you can place the unallocated space on other drives or use the same drive. The even give links to free utilities that will alter partitions and reclaim free space back to un-allocated space.

I have had that service installed for a good while now. and no, all I used was the XP setup tool for partitioning. |

Normally also, the install will not work until the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service has been Installed first, which is located here:
