| reply to Coolman So today I went and checked and I am back getting my info put off to Chicago and not Toronto this pisses me off. I could understand them switching me back if they are trying to address the slowdown thing but who knows. I am sure Bell will get things straightened out and if they don't people are gonna through their modems (I know I would) |

1 edit | reply to Coolman After reading this I called sympatico up. I had to explain what this inerleave profile was. I told him my info was being passed off to chicago. I don't think he really got it but he went to a level 2 rep and he explained it to him and they switched me. Now insted of it going to chicago and getting 80ms or timeout it goes to toronto at 40ms-60ms which is great. Coolman I think what happen it the service rep did't know the diffrent he thinks your talking about speed profiles like dsl lite and ultra highspeed so you gotta get them to understand. Good Luck. |

| reply to FoxDarkStar The tech just said that my location does not let me get upgraded to 3000/800 and he said that my connection looks stable. When I asked him what my distance to the main office was, he said it was impossible to find out unless they send a guy to my house to measure it. |

1 edit | reply to Coolman said by Coolman :thanks again, it's funny because I am using an extension cord right now to connect. However, today I tried connecting the modem to a jack with a 4 foot telephone cord and I connected the modem to another computer. I did a line test and I still get the same latency ~80 ms on the first hop Just a follow up here, don't ever use a phone extension cord longer then 6ft. As the phone cords use low grade wires and the longer the cord the more likely hinder internet performance.
The short the cord the better. (Under 6ft) -- Sympatico HighSpeed Ultra (5Meg) - Download @ 540 KBs/Sec - Upload @ 79 KBs/Sec |

| reply to Coolman Give the first line techs a chance to react. Tell them you are a gamer and need to be on a "non interleave" profile. They should understand and forward it to the appropriate people. No guarantees here as the line may not be able to sustain the fast path without errors... -- My Canada includes Quebec. |

| reply to Coolman If you keep the short cord, then call them they may take you off the interleave profile because the errors would be fewer in number. The error counter times every 15 minutes so if you have a couple of hours of error free stats with the short cord they may change you to a "fast path" profile and your latency will be better. Make sense? -- My Canada includes Quebec. |

| reply to Coolman Dont check your latency after using the 4ft telephone cord. But check your errors (rate) and your SNR in the DSL Stats page of your modem.
The long wire often is the culprit to occassional problems the modem has in keeping good sync if you are too far from the central office. |

| reply to Coolman You could call Sympatico and ask them if it is necessary to be on the interleave profile. They can check your error rate. The issue could be with poor internal wiring in your residence, if able you can check that. Some of the members here will have more suggestions. One thing to make sure you don't have is an extension cord going from the jack to the modem. If there is a distance issue you are better off using a long ethernet cable and putting the modem beside the jack with a 4 foot telephone cord. Just one of many suggestions. -- My Canada includes Quebec. |

1 edit | reply to Coolman Most likely you are on the Interleave profile. That causes a certain amount of latency as it checks for and does error correction. Here is the same tracert from another perspective:

| Hey guys.
I am using Sympatico HSE but I'm on the 1.5mbit/380 kbit profile. I enjoy playing online games. I have noticed that my pings to servers are usually high. So I decided to do a line test and here are the results: »/quality/nil/1972536
I noticed that I am 79ms on the first hop.
I also found out how to do a tracert so here is one to dslreports.com: 1 54 ms 49 ms 53 ms 64.230.197.204 2 50 ms 59 ms 51 ms 64.230.222.33 3 51 ms 50 ms 46 ms core3-toronto12-Gigabite4-2.in.bellnexxia.net [2 06.108.107.121] 4 58 ms 59 ms 62 ms core2-chicago23-pos10-0.in.bellnexxia.net [206.1 08.103.118] 5 62 ms 59 ms 59 ms rtp628930rts [64.230.203.42] 6 59 ms 61 ms 60 ms rtp629497rts [64.230.186.134] 7 78 ms 75 ms 73 ms nyk-bb1-pos0-3-0.telia.net [213.248.80.154] 8 76 ms 75 ms 75 ms nyk-b3-link.telia.net [213.248.82.10] 9 76 ms 72 ms 72 ms nac-110814-nyk-b3.c.telia.net [213.248.82.94] 10 116 ms 76 ms 76 ms 11.ge-2-3-0.gbr1.tl9.nac.net [209.123.11.98] 11 84 ms 80 ms 77 ms 0.so-5-0-0.gbr1.mmu.nac.net [209.123.11.53] 12 83 ms 77 ms 81 ms 0.so-2-0-0.gbr2.oct.nac.net [209.123.11.146] 13 185 ms 199 ms 74 ms 0.ge-0-0-0.gbr1.oct.nac.net [209.123.11.49] 14 78 ms 77 ms 75 ms www.dslreports.com [209.123.109.175]
