thanks again, it's funny because I am using an extension cord right now to connect. However, today I tried connecting the modem to a jack with a 4 foot telephone cord and I connected the modem to another computer. I did a line test and I still get the same latency ~80 ms on the first hop

Just a follow up here, don't ever use a phone extension cord longer
then 6ft. As the phone cords use low grade wires and the longer
the cord the more likely hinder internet performance.

The short the cord the better. (Under 6ft)
