Thanks,I got it figured out. It did have to do with passive mode. I also had to open other ports. |

| reply to grandpinaple Rather safe since it is person to person. Not like BT where anyone can jump in. Just make sure that you don't send files to strangers. I don't think the **AA actively search out people like that anyways. -- Please view the Hitachi3694MVM page at http://mvm4.hitachi369.com |

| reply to harryhoudini Typically sitting behind a NAT device you need to use passive mode. Even though your FTP server still runs on port 21 you need to configure and forward ports for passive mode. Here is a quick rundown, passive verse active FTP.

join:2003-02-05 Los Angeles, CA 1 edit | reply to harryhoudini well, I did the reboot. Fixed my issue with MSN, but FTP stil not accessible. Sucks too since the interface is simple. Friend gets a CDW 550 Permission Denied error.
I did set passive mode. It was not set before. |

join:2003-02-05 Los Angeles, CA | reply to harryhoudini I think the issue may be related to port fowarding to. On a few occasions I have had to reboot my router. Although ports were fowarded, it was not actualy happening. I will check when I get home. |

join:2003-02-05 Los Angeles, CA | reply to harryhoudini We are both using Bullet FTP. I am using the Server version and he is using the Client. I also installed the client on my machine so I could test. Worked fine for me but then again it is within my network so it is not a good comparison. |

| reply to harryhoudini Thanks. I tried this today and my friend kept getting a 550 error. Googled it and did not get much.
I forwarded port 21 to my machine. He can see the files but when he tries to download, he gets this error. When I look at his user, the directory I gave him access to shows in read like there is an issue.
Any help would be appreciated. |

| reply to harryhoudini I use ftp, though the client I was using farted out and decided to fart out and stop showing sub dir. FTP supports resume, also allows you to set certain groups. I like it. I am working on using Bulletproof FTP Server now. Haven't gotten the chance to really mess with it, but it comes highly recommended. -- Please view the Hitachi3694MVM page at http://mvm4.hitachi369.com |

| Once In a while I need to share a large file with friends via net. I do use MSN Messnger but it sometimes craps out and I have to start all over again. Also, the transfer speed is crap.
What do you all use for this? I would like for it to have resume function as well as fast. |
