1 edit | That would be a huge Wimax rollout; if true
If the unnamed analyst really has some legitimate info, this would be a huge Wimax implementation and has the potential to shake up the whole wireless landscape, including WiFi, 3G, etc. And, of course, if this actually rolls out, it could be a formidable competitor to the telcos and cable companies. Especially because of Murdoch's deep pockets and ability to eat costs for a few years.

I would wonder how much time planning has been spent by executives at News Corp. who see this as an opportunity to get "the message" out? |

I would wonder how much time planning has been spent by executives at News Corp. who see this as an opportunity to get "the message" out? Probably little or no time at all. This venture into broadband is all about protecting their income streams as triple play marketing by their competitors threatens their profits. Remember, corporations are 1st and foremost about making money for the stockholders. Everything else is secondary. -- -- Join Red Room Forum My Web Page |

2 edits | reply to TKJunkMail I find that highly unlikely considering News Corp's message is pro-industry, pro-capitalism, and serves stockholders. Granted it's probably a tertiary concern behind pure profit and creating a triple play for DirecTV, but I'd bet a limb that creating a marketing and political voice to aim at broadband users is a significant part of the planning. Murdock is a world player. He sees the entire chess board not just the part that pertains to the US. His has enormous stakes in Europe,Australia and China. He might be getting some press in US now since News Corp moved from Australia to New York but he has been a big shark for a long time. Any CEO that discounts what Murdock can accomplish better just look at number of companies under his control and be scared. Really scared.

| reply to Karl Bode Links to Rupert or News Corp saying such things would be helpful before accusing them of such.
Odd.. he's a very big liberal and a Democrapic Party contributor, so I fail to see how he can be accused of a conservative viewpoint.
As it pertains to Fox News and the New York Post (among others), he may be a liberal but he knows what sells. Obviously, he's going to let them go their own way in terms of viewpoint since it's worked so well thus far.
Yes, personally I prefer the formula of "we report you decide" to "we're CNN/NBC/CBS/ABC/NYT and we're right no matter what." -- "It is my destiny to give back to the universe infinitely more than I have taken from it." -- Anonymous |

He's not a "very big liberal", he's an opportunist. and Re-read what I wrote. I didn't say Conservative message, I said pro-industry. |

When you've done that, let me know what you find. We have yet to see such outright falsifications on any other channels than FauxNews. FauxNews iis the most primitive, cheapest level fearmongering crap. It doesn't work sh*t, it's a joke all around the wolrd, an example as the world's most biased "news" source. FauxNews operates and distorts *exactly* the same way as old Commie news sources did during my first 2x years in Mid-Eu, only that FauxNews is on the other end of the palette. Worthless piece of shit. I hope Murdoch, this abominable old worm, will rot in hell forever for this (thx God his son already showed him his middle finger when he chosen his family over that craptastic tabloid NY Post). |

1 edit | reply to kamm Really, Kamm, tell us how you really feel.
In all seriousness, consider your options here: CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN/PMSNBC/NYT reporting the same bullshit or FoxNews.
Oh, and before you start with "outright falsifications" I should quite easily remind you of the fiasco that CBS went through when Dan "This Is My Honest Face" Rather decided to forge documents in order to prop up his bullshit theory about Bush and his time served in the National Guard
And let's not forget how each of the major stations just ate up every word Slick Willie had to say about how there wasn't anything wrong with starting a war in Eastern Europe to cover up (quite badly I might add) a minor indiscretion with an intern during election season.
So yes, I prefer FoxNews to Communist News Network, All Bullshit Central, Clinton Broadcasting Stations, Nazi Broadcasting Company, or the only old grey lady I think should've been euthanized long ago, the New York Times (which is just so crappy it doesn't deserve a witty nickname).
Bring it.
EDIT - Oh, and I noticed you didn't take me up on my original challenge - to separate Rupert & News Corp from FoxNews & NYPost the same way you would separate Ted Turner & Turner Broadcasting from CNN. I guess you can't, and I'll assume otherwise until I get an opposing response of some significance.

| Really? Let's hear something bad about CNN.
Ted Turner used it for years to foist his beliefs and opinions upon the viewing public and everyone trusted it like there was something about cable news that made you trust it more than you would network news. Oh that's right! Network news was seen as the "establishment" and Teddy was freeing us from that establishment! Giving us a "fresh" opinion (which was really just a rehashing of the network news opinion) and giving it to us ALL THE TIME. Yet here comes competition in the form of Fox News, a company owned and allowed to run freely by Rupert Murdoch, out of the belief that injecting opinion into the news was exactly what was wrong with the news in the first place! And what do we say, we who claim to want more than one option, more than one choice for our internet access or phone service or entertainment? WE BASH IT INTO OBLIVION BECAUSE THE FACTS WE SEE ARE NOT WHAT WE WANT.
Let's face it: Clinton was a bald-faced liar, Bush isn't, the majority of Americans are truly concerned with their security and the prevention of another 9/11 and as such will support any effort to rid the world of terrorism in any form, and Dan "rileyjam's Special Friend" Rather is a bigger fibber than Clinton (if that's at all possible). -- "It is my destiny to give back to the universe infinitely more than I have taken from it." -- Anonymous |
