[Phishing] Chase/Credit Card Services Fraud Operations Voicem

Got a voice mail last night that appeared to be from Chase. Sounded like a pre-recorded message stating that they wanted to verify some account activity. I immediately checked my online account for current charges. I only had two charges that were indeed made by myself that were not more than $50 or out of my typical CC spending habits. I checked the number on caller id (800-454-9078). I did some reverse searches and found nothing. I checked Chases' 800 numbers and no matches. Today I called the number and there is a pre-recorded message. They claim to be "Credit Card Services Fraud Operations" and then ask you to input your 16 digit account number.

I've never encountered a credit card company with any sort of automated system where you actually input your account number. Surely they can look up your info by other means.

Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else has received this voice mail in recent days. I may call Chase directly to double check but I am 99% sure this is a phishing attempt.

TIA.

Tom

Yes I believe it was phishing, there is at least one report from over a year ago of the same mo, claiming to be Bank One from that same 800-454-9078 number »clarklane.blogspot.com/2004/12/p···ast.html

It's amazing that even over a year later they can still operate with the same number without getting shut down.

You should call the number for Chase that is on your monthly statement and ask them whether this was legit.

Also, in case you didn't know, Chase bought BankOne in 2004. They've been consolidating their operations, and calls to many of their "older" numbers now go to "Cardmember Service."

Re: [Phishing] Chase/Credit Card Services Fraud Op

The number appears to be legit. I received the same message this morning from 800-454-9078. I was wary so I called the number on the back of my credit card. They did, in fact, want to confirm some charges on my account. It was all an automated process.

Same message from 800-454-9078. They had my name and last 4 digits of the credit card. It sounded legit, but just in case I've called Chase customer service. Operator transferred me to fraud department and they said they did call me to confirm charges.
