Another BT Throttling Solution?

Those f you that have tried BitComets Protocol Header Encryption (PHE) to use on Rogers but didn't really much like BitComet have more options now. Both uTorrent and Azureus support there own PHE, which is compatible with each other but not with BitComets. Supposedly it is much better then the one found in BitComet, as this new spec encrypts the whole BT protocol rather then the flawed BitComet way of encrypting only the Header. These files are in Beta, so check it out with your Throttled Rogers connection using the old default BT port 6881 rather then 1720. This is our oppertunity to beta test a release specifically made for people in our unique position ... we have to ensure the system works, to smooth out any bugs, and get our collective voices heard. Rogers is basically the pre-cursor why this has been adopted.

I would recommend that you guys try the uTorrent version, as it is a compact and clean client. Also it is more easy to report problems with the encryption over at the uTorrent forums, rather than the Azureus's god knows where. The developers of both clients collabrated so technically an issue on the specs posted on the uTorrent forums would get over to Azureus developers.

thanks for the head up. I previously used az successfully for most torrnets but never for those seeded from asia, no connections. I turned to Bitcomet and got through with flying colourful ninjas. Maybe the diff was bitcomet's encryption function, not sure, but now that az has it I can test this theory out.

So have anyone here tried this? Does it really work? I really need a good PHE client to use on Cogeco right now...

Does not work for me. I used utorrent and tried every option and multiple ports. Still capped. im in Scarborough.

Do remember that since both the Azureus client and uTorrent clients are in beta ... the userbase that is required to be encrypted is practically non-existant aside from the few beta testers. Once a public release is offered, speeds should begin to improve. Right now is the time to fix flaws when they become apparent. Those that are throttled and beta-testing this please report bugs here, or over at the uTorrent forums.

Thanks

Is your broadband capped? Meaning your sync speed is lower then what you usually have.

Use the beta version of Utorrent

IT WORKS

Make sure you enable the encryption option in the preferences and tada you are back in business

Cultural commitments to software: BitComet comes out of Asia, makes a tracker software that's popular there too, and the DHT server is there too. Same social/cultural dynamic at work in Europe: AZ comes out of France.

Because BC & AZ now have two incompatable divisions impacting peer connections, DHT and encrypted packet recognition, the divide will deepen, unfortunately. It's too bad as both camps could learn from each other: AZ needs to update their GUI so it's more compact and BC needs to improve protocol adherence. BC does some great stuff, but doesn't appear to give a shit about compatability - social or technical.

What's odd is that my download is throttled from 220kb/sec to 1kb/sec so very often... I thought it was my connection problems so it turn out that it's a p2p thing. I downgraded my 6mb expert tier to pro speed just to resolve this problem. oh well.

Any scuttlebutt from insiders at Rogers and/or Cogeco about whether they have begun to implementing more sophisticated traffic profiling?

If they are serious about it then the header sniffing is (was?) a stop-gap measure. Ya'll are going to have to bail to the competition or, if none, scream bloody murder. Is there any talk in Canada about metered usage? This tiered, flat-usage account stuff is moronic and I've been arguing against it for years.

EUREKA!! Brilliant stroke of genius

From my uploads crawling at 10k/s using BitComet .61 with header encryption enabled I'm up to my max rate using the beta version of uTorrent (build 417) seeding the exact same torrent.

Options: Port 1755 on Rogers
Protocol Encryption - Enabled Always and allow incoming legacy connections.

It looks as if those network shaping boxes were only sniffing headers as suspected. Good luck Rogers with the horsepower needed to decrypt entire data streams.
