| What 19'' LCD monitors do you folks recommend?
Hello I am looking for a 19'' LCD monitor. I am looking for one that is good for gaming and is bright. If you folks have any recommendation do tell me.
Oh, my video card is quite old. It does noit have a DVI output only the typical analog, will this matter? Will the image quality suffer? |

| reply to peggypwr1 I'm very happy with the Dell 1905FPs I'm using, but they look like crap hooked up via VGA, so I don't recommend them in your case.
The Samsungs are always great. The newer Sony's have nice displays, but the bezel/stand looks stupid to me.
However, the best display in the world will still look bad while gaming hooked up to an old, underpowered video card. -- AMD X2 4800+ @2700Mhz/ MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI/ 2x 1024Mb Corsair XMS PC4000/ WD 74Gb Raptor/ PNY 7800GTs SLI/ Antec 550 True Control/Custom water cooler |

| I recently got a 1905fp and I will say that I do notice a general blur in video games and when I scroll down a web page quickly; it just isn't as crisp as a CRT monitor. However, everything still looks great and I got used to this effect quickly. In fact, the monitor makes me notice jaggies in games less. |

1 edit | reply to peggypwr1 I jumped on the Samsung SyncMaster 940B. It's very bright (I had to turn it down to 50% illumines), and clear. Has an 8ms B/W/B refresh rate, and a 700:1 contrast ratio. Text is very crisp. It also has support for VGA, and DVI. The monitor is rated as an SXGA device, so you shouldn't have a problem with your video card.
I've played all of my games with it so far, and there hasn't been a problem. I'm currently playing BF2, and Flying Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. I also still play Home World 2 (which looks beautiful on this thing), and COD2.
It's not the least or most expensive - so at $330 from newegg.com you can't go wrong. -- Nope, it's just me. |

1 edit | reply to peggypwr1 Hey, if can chime in... I am looking at this particular monitor at newegg.

It seems only VGA though. Will that be a hinderance, compared to DVI? I will be using it for everything as well as playing games.
I am a fan of the widescreens... |

| reply to flashlites I recently bought a Samsung 930B, which is the same display as yours but has a different base. (Mine is fixed height and doesn't swivel, but that's ok since it sits stationary on my desk).
I also had to turn down the brightness.. I have mine running at around 65% with further tweaking done with the video driver. I agree - text is very crisp and color reproduction is excellent. I occasionally play UT2004 among other things and have had no issues at all - I often forget it's an LCD. VGA and DVI input (switchable with the press of one button - nice!) is a great feature as I use it to switch between my desktop PC and my laptop when it's home.
I also run a lot of demos (ASD, Plastic, Farbrausch, Sector Omega, etc). These generally run 800x600 or 1024x768. I've set my card to let the monitor scale non-native resolutions. The scaling is as good as I've seen on any LCD.
Among the many high quality LCD displays out there, this is one of the best. |

| reply to peggypwr1 I will sum it up really quickly for you...Dell. They have the best price for your size. If you want to spend more and get a brighter LCD then I would have to say that Apple has the brightest and the ones with the best color. -- MacBook Pro 1.83 GHz; 1 GB RAM; 100 GB HD 7200 RPM; ATI x1600 w/ 256MB GDDR3; Built in iSight; FrontRow and the best feature ever...OSX! |

| reply to peggypwr1 I have the Dell 1901 flat panel and it is great. But I use it on DVI. I never attached it via analog. The quality of the video card really matters. I was using this monitor with an nVidia GeForce 5200 128MB card and a Dell 8300 Dimension. I have a new XPS600 from Dell with the GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB card and the monitor looks sharper and clearer. I got blur scrolling down a page fast and in games with the 5200 nVidia card. I can scroll super fast now using the 7800 card and no blur. I haven't played any games...but have run a few demos which have been incredible so I am sure there will be no blurring. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy."
