| I Don't Understand
I was trying to get my distance updated. (I have a Covad line at 6,000 feet and Verizon at 17,900 feet) Can't seem to get that done. Then, I read that I can get a 1.5/128k upgrade for free according to your support site. I email it up and they say I can get 1.5/384k. That is an upgrade that is more money. I email back and they say I cannot get the 1.5/128k to call billing. I call billing and I do not qualify for the free upgrade. So I qualify for the upgrade for more money but not the "free upgrade". Something is real shakey here. Here is the email:
Thank you for your email. Great news! Your line qualifies for our up to 1.5mbps/384kbps DSL upgrade service. Actual connection and throughput speeds and uninterrupted use of the service are not guaranteed.

For the protection of our subscribers we need to verify that the person requesting a change to the account is the account holder and thus has authority to change information on the account. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We appreciate your business and value you as a customer. Thank you for choosing Verizon Online as your Internet Service Provider.

| 17,900' is the default loop EWL when the exact distance is not known. If you have a known Covad loop then that is most likely close to your real loop EWL (Effective Wire Length) as they get it from the telco.
Here is the link to the Verizon Online website and if you click on the speeds and prices links they will give you information that you need to make a decision.

Do not go so much by what you read here as much as what is on the official Verizon Online site as that is what is going to determine final terms. BTW, an upgrade from one speed level to another is free for existing Verizon Online customers but you are considered a Covad customer as Verizon the telco supplies the line but VOL the ISP is not part of the deal at present. When I went from 1.5/384 to 3/768 there was no charge to upgrade and in fact, my monthly cost went down slightly due to price changes.
All the best.
