| DVR low audio out level
I'm asking for a friend who lives in Indianapolis...
Using the Motorola Insight DVR, when watching any content through the DVR....live or recorded...the audio level is really low. He has to turn the TV up full-blast to even be able to hear it.
With Tivo, he had no problem. Is there a setting somewhere? He's exchanged his DVR..same problem.
Any ideas? |

| Do you know if your friend setup the audio out to either TV or custom with max compression??
If he did not then the audio out stream is not using any compression and seems to have very low volume unless connected to a stereo.
I am not sitting in front of my TV to really explain on how to set the DVR to the correct settings but it is very simple. It is located somewhere on the main menu. If further info is needed respond and I will get the necessary steps to try and fix this. |

| reply to ZipZilla This is one issue I've not seen. It most likely is just a settings issue. If for some reason that doesn't resolve things. It may be a bad box - but I agree with the above post that playing with settings should resolve the problem. Then again this could be yet another DVR ghost. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics My BLOG ZoneAlarm Help |

| Does your friend have his Cable remote programmed to control the TV volume? If so check the volume level of your TV using its remote. If the volume of your TV is low, the cable remote will have to be way up to hear it. I have my TV set at 15 and then use the cable remote for a Motorola 6412 III(set on cable). |

1 edit | reply to ZipZilla Easy way to check:
Menu Menu > Setup, Audio Setup (is Audio Output set for TV Speakers or Advancd? If Advanced, Compression set for None, Light, or Heavy? Is the Stereo Output set for Stereo, Matrix, or Mono?)
Only two things to worry about, Audio Output and Compression. Easy way to fix, just have him set Audio Output for TV and on Optimal Stereo, make sure Yes. If Optimal Stereo is set for No, just have him press right on it, and hit Ok.
Nothing too hard, and real easy to correct. -- One man's customer loyalty is another man's misguided arrogance. |

| reply to ZipZilla My audio level is fine except for the digital channels. On the digital channels I have to turn my TV up. Not a big deal but when switching between channels 1-99 and 100+ sometimes it gets pretty loud.
I control the volume on by TV.
Anyone else experience this? |

| There is a huge difference in the audio levels between the HD channels and the analog channels. I have to crank up the volume a lot when switching to a HD channel. Then if I switch back to an analog station, I get blown out of my chair because the volume is so loud. It's really bad with WEEK-HD and WHOI-HD. |

I corrected the problem for myself by using the compression mentioned above. Now all of the channels are a consistent volume. -- Sitting here like a loaded gun, Waiting to go off |
