but..

please don't let someone in Hollywood think they can make a 2 hour movie of this. I would love the public to get educated but not by the embellishing, truth-distortion machine that cranks out "Oscar-nominated Stamp of rental worthiness".

Maybe if the history or discovery channel production cos...

Definitely worth following this...

Re: but..

There already was a book written years ago, the first one that I'm aware of called the "Cuckoo's Egg" written by Cliff Stoll. The book was interesting at the time, granted it is quite dated based upon today's computer technology.

Also as I recall Stoll was, shall I say, a "unique" individual.

Oh and don't miss his cookie recipie in the middle of the book.

Re: but..

I read that shortly after it came out...neat book. I was still getting my e-mail through Telnet at the time. Stoll's original career was that of astronomy, which makes the story even more interesting. Most of his "hacking" knowledge is self-taught.

self-taught is incorrect. that's like saying I lend myself money when it should be others lend me money.
You mean self-learned? You can't teach yourself but you can learn yourself??? That's like saying Me eat potato, Me like you when ya twisting words around that is bad grammar IMHO.

Wow. I mean wow.

Is there something in the water today that people are scrutinizing my 4 sentence post? (flattering though it is. )

Like I say to everyone in a similar snit, if you want to start a flame war, knock yourself out. I'll be somewhere else. It's a nice day out, I think I'll catch some non-LCD rays. Ciao.

Dude, you need to chill and stop being anal retentive about what is being written, try to focus on what is being said. It looks like you need some self awareness. Lol, self learned, that has to be the stupidest term for teaching yourself something. Go back to grammar school. It is used, it is correct, and it makes sense so go back to your circle jerk.

Yes, I have his book. And the yummy cchip recipe.
(It's still a good read, albeit dated...TTY.)

I just think that our email users of today aren't keen on why they get this stuff.

I even get miffed when I use google (and it gives me UK searches...I am not in the UK!) and some links try to push a trojan on me.
