You sure its "taking"? You mean they come and forcefully take that money each month? Or did you mean the money you willingly give them? Hm...funny you should mention this, as I canceled my account in Jan, lady gave me a confirmation number and said I would recieve a check for 14.61 for the remainder of the time I had left for the the month.
Today, 10-14 days later, no check in the mail, but a debit for another full months charge taken from my bank account.
Call them, get some story about how my service was just disconnected yesterday, blah, blah, blah.
I will now recieve a check for 81.61 in 10-14 days. Apparently they can only take money from debit accounts, not credit them.
Also, if any of you comcast employees are here, Im giving the video of the tech smashing my dish to the cops.

| even if this loophole wasnt posted, im sure comcast already knows that people can do it and if they were going to do anything about it, they probably would have done so long ago-the truth is that the probably dont really care if people do it as long as they get some money out of them every month | |

2 edits | well, i dont download every day and the most ive used up my limit is no more than 2 or 3 times in a month so to me its not worth paying extra for unless im going to be downloading tons of gb every month-also, ill go some months without using newsgroups at all-either way,we can sit and argue about this until the world ends, but it really doesnt matter because as long as its not against the rules, im not going to feel guilty or worry about it

from »www.comcast.net/terms/use.jsp in the NEWSGROUP section:
Comcast permits users of the Service to download a maximum of two gigabytes (2GB) of newsgroup content in any one month, unless users are subject to a Service plan that permits downloading more newsgroup content. -- I wasn't born with enough middle fingers.

| Define "user". I believe that Comcast could likely spend very little energy on scripting that sets up a 2GB GigaNews account for only the primary account holder, but 2GB more per month isn't going to make or break any network. Hell, I probably get that much ARP traffic in one month. Better to let people think they're getting a little extra, especially when it won't add up to a hill of beans in the end. I ponied up for a newshosting.com unlimited account, and I couldn't be happier. I do D/L a lot, but I have the speed toned down so I don't trash the node for my neighbors, and I watch the general condition of the network with ping.
I pay for and receive excellent service from both Comcast and newshosting.com. Years ago, free unlimited NNTP service was standard. When multiple terabytes became the norm, I knew that third party NNTP providers would fill in the holes. To Verizon's credit, they still provide unlimited NNTP with their service. Newshosting.com has better NNTP service IMHO, but I expect that. Until I start maintaining my own NNTP farm, I won't complain about any ISP not providing unlimited news service.
