There are several links to free news servers on this page. I have not yet tried them out though. Might be worth a shot. -- Oh, and Senator, just one more thing: love your suit! |

1 edit | reply to 34140721 I spent a whole day trying various free servers, many of them ended up that the server was configured wrong allowing a short window of opportunity.Ones that were supposed to be free were difficult to connect to,had terrible retention, and were either censored or did not have may of the groups that one would want to download from.
In short, not worth the time IMO
Might try »www.slyck.com/ng.php?page=2 there was at least one that was free up to one GB -- My Photo Gallery

| reply to 34140721 You need to multiplex or aggregate your free news servers to make them work effectively. Add them to your ISP's news server to improve completion, retention or both. I'm currently multiplexing over 25 free news servers. Also you need some servers that are used mostly to supply headers, and other that are used primarily to provide message bodies.
There are a few public forums that discuss open/free news servers, but the best of these are not in English. Some lists have already been posted. Also keep an eye out for commercial servers that offer free trials. New open testing servers come and go, so some effort is needed to track them.
Here are some sites offering current information that may help:
»www.disenter.com/ »home.snafu.de/hweede/pulin.htm »www.nyx.net/~bkraft/ »services.triceron.com/usenet/srv···hp?ord=3
Also there are a number of programs that can help you find your own open news-servers. Here are some links:
