She's (it's probably a guy, by the way) going to do one of two things. The most common thing to do is send you a fake check that is much greater than the purchase price. You will deposit the check and send "her" the rest of the money via Western Union or MoneyGram. You will also send "her" the goods via DHL/UPS. Two weeks later, your bank will have confirmation that the check is fake.. they will pull the funds from your account and you'll be left with the burden that is paying back the bank.
The second thing is to use a credit card.. a stolen credit card. The con works the same - they will ask you to charge it $500-5000 extra and send the overcharged money to them via WU or MG, as well as sending the goods.
As for busting them - don't count on it. Your heart is in the right place, but it's just not going to happen for several reasons: a) Government corruption is common in Africa. Very common. This means that most scammers can get away with scamming as long as they pay bribes on time. b) Scammers - even the rich ones, in most cases - don't have their own computers. They go to cybercafes and scam from them. c) Scams like these are common in Africa. South Africa is one of few countries in the area that is serious about combatting this type of fraud (»www.419legal.org/) but getting an arrest is not something that happens on a daily basis.
See what they say... if they want to send a fake check, let me know.. I'll find someone who will take it. The best we can do with fake checks is alert the bank so that they know what to expect.

| HTH,
I'll let you know if they reply. Right now I'm hoping they'll agree to make a "deposit" of some kind. Credit card or check.
If they do, I'll have to create some sort of cheap "Doo-hickey" so I can be legit myself. Of course I never actually described what they were in my emails to them. They want to buy them sight unseen. Maybe I can purchase 5000 beads at the craft store and call them Doo-Hickeys? Something that may cost me $5 or so. Hmmm or maybe get rice and paint them gold. 5000 grains of gold rice would be cheaper then 5000 beads.
I can also create another product - I did mention another one in my original letter. I can call that one a "Whoozy-what-zits" - an Acne remover for Teenage Girls.

| It's nice to see that you've got an interest in scam baiting. You should check out these sites... there are tons of people in the forums who can help you with ideas and such. »www.thescambaiter.com and »www.419eater.com are great places to get started.
Now a question for you - do you want to send this guy a bunch of junk? If so, there are a few things you should know. Let me know if that's what you want to do, and we'll go from there.

| P-P-P-Powerbook was very flawed because they used FedEx. Lads will usually pay FedEx with a stolen credit card... by the time the chargeback is filed, the goods are already delivered, and FedEx will come after the sender for the money.
DHL is best because they have a CoD system for countries like Ghana and Nigeria. The scammer pays cash before he's even allowed to look at the box.
Edit: Come to think of it, the scammer never even paid for shipping of the P-P-P-Powerbook. That's lame. We need to make the scammer spend some money! -- AIM | B | irc.removed.us - #dslr | Give me a ring: 718-606-4100 |
