Everything went extremely well. This was a self-install, so I changed the VPI/VCI and got sync. So, the woman at the "Help" Desk was completely wrong, and the Alcatel 1000 works like a champ on Pronto. Oh, and I didn't have to register to get my IPs, but a simple phone call to a real Help Desk was all it took.
Congratulations - all's well that ends well. I understood your anxiety, but I couldn't reassure you by saying for sure that what the first help desk told you would be the procedure was right or wrong - all of my installs were done by techs. I'm glad it wasn't as complex as what you were first led to believe ...
reply to kenspi I had the same problem with Pacbell telling me that my Alcatel 1000 modem would not work on the Pronto Remote Terminal. I asked them if there was a way to change my current hardware and they were telling me no that I have to buy a new modem.
Anyway the VPI/VCI settings were easy to change within like 5 min. Very simple fix. But you know they probably just want more people to buy their stupid newer modems.
