Re: My (Draft) Letter Re: Montgomery County MD

Last year, the Gazette published the salaries of our county officials. The article isn't online anymore so I can't answer your question with any degree of certainty.

Looks like Gazette pulled it, but good old WPO still has it

Enjoy.

Hmm. I wrote a couple of letters to the Councilmembers, and to Doug Duncan. Jerry Pasternak replied from Duncan's office asking for a phone number and a time to call, so hopefully he'll ring soon to explain his position.

But from the councilmembers tell me, the county executive (Doug & party... Or Jerry, since he handled the last negotiation w/ Comcast in 2004(?)) first negotiates with the company, and then it is move to the concilmembers for approval. But their "no deal, no upgrade" seems a bit harsh. We'll see. I'll have to read up on this stuff in case he calls (IF he calls).

Re: My (Draft) Letter Re: Montgomery County MD

So it's true. We actually pay Duncan! The list includes some support staff for the council, but not their salaries. If I remember, the list from the Gazette was inclusive of council members' salaries.

And yes, my understanding is that the television franchise application must be submitted to Duncan's office first. Then Duncan turns it over to the council.

Remember, the county does NOT have a "no deal, no upgrade" policy. In fact, the fiber upgrade is already available in many areas of the county. As far as I know, the county has not granted any "extra" agreement to Verizon for this upgrade.

The City of Rockville requires an "extra" agreement for the FiOS upgrade.
