I think we are up to date (1630pm GMT). That entry in the 220206 security update thread is erroneous, as my post there with pic indicates. I stand to be corrected if someone else finds an update issued after 15th. |

Looks like I was quite wrong when I speculated there would be no further updates for Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta. It just updated and gave me definition file 5811. Think I'll keep it a while lomger while the kinks are worked out of Windows Defender.

| reply to Le Boule said by Le Boule :AntiSpyware Beta is no longer listed on the Microsft Download page. There are apparently going to be no more updates for Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta. I presume keeping the present program is not an option unless we wish to use a program that is not current; it will be like using an anti-virus program that is out of date. So if we don't have antispyware as part of an anti-virus suite and want a "free" and current resident type ASW program we should switch to Windows Defender or purchase a program such as Spysweeper. Am I correct in my interpretation? If you have the Anti-Spyware ("Beta I") It should still be good until Microsoft announces the Beta is over.
Of course the Beta I is not being offered anymore because the Beta II is now being offered, but I would not rush to leave Beta I, if you are using it now with all the problems with Beta II, why not wait until things get a little more stable? -- Black, Grey and White Hats Unite here -> »testing.OnlyTheRightAnswers.com |

| reply to Le Boule I chose to do the same thing after running Windows Defender for a while. Windows Defender just wasn't worth the hassle. With the updates not always wanting to work and no icon for quick access to disable the program if needed, I think I'll stick with good ol' MSAS until updates end for it. -- HABYA HABYA HABYA TEAR DOWN THE HEM STALKS EAT UP THE OLD MAN AND WOMAN AND CARRY OFF THE LITTLE GIRL MAY YOU DIE ALONE |

| Does it put the icon with the yellow ! mark in your system tray if you haven't performed a full scan recently?
I turned off the daily/weekly scan and will run manual scans, but I don't want the icon popping up all the time telling me I need to run a full scan.
I wasn't sure if the yellow ! was because it needed new defs or if it wanted me to run a full scan.
Which is it? |

2 edits | reply to LetsRok It puts the icon with the yellow "!" in the sys tray if it has been 3 or more days since a scan and if you summon the control panel during that time.
After a scan, the icon disappears again
Edit: the yellow "!" is to alert you that you haven't scanned in the last 3 or more days. I've also noticed that the icon won't appear if I don't lauch the app, so the 'alert' icon really doesn't do much good if you don't launch the app again. |

1 edit | reply to LetsRok oy....do to other issues, my MSAS got hosed, along with a couple of other programs. Fixed that issue, but when I went to reinstall MSAS (still had the downloader), I got a message saying something to the effect that is was no longer supported as of 12/31/05 and it wouldn't let me reinstall it, BUGGER!! Up until last night when I had my *issue*, it was working fine, I was even still getting definitions.
Now I had to go with WD....I really hope they reconsider putting back the tray icon, I like to KNOW if something is running or not. And I'll be really annoyed if I have these update problems, precisely why I wanted to stay with MSAS.
Also seems to be a bit of a resource hog. -- ~~Then the rainstorm came over me and I felt my spirit break;I had lost all of my belief you see, and realized my mistake...~~ |
