So you are interested in RC5...

RC5 is a distributing computing client, just like the more popular SETI@Home or Folding@Home.

The only thing you really need to do is download a file, about 250kbs and unzip it to somewhere. You can download it from this page for all platforms. I myself downloaded the zipped client.

For Windows users, you also should place a link in your Startup folder to the .exe file so it auto loads on a reboot.

So, what's this thing look like?

This is a screenshot of my Pentium 2, running the client when you first load the program up when it's maximized. The important things are underlined in red. Your username, the amount of packets (WU / Work Units) sitting in the inbox, and the amount sitting in the outbox.

It's basically a well organized program.
This is the main menu. Just enter the number of the thing you want to select, then just hit enter. To back out of a sub-folder, just type in 0 to back out.

Well, how the heck do you set this thing up? Here are my settings, I shrunk them a bit to save a few pixels.

This is your first set of options from the main menu. When you first load the program, you should set your e-mail address, which is your ID.

Menu #2.

One of the most important things you MUST do to be able to run RC5, is to set the client to run RC5 only (via option 9). There are 4 different types of projects, we're only running RC5. The 2nd thing that's highlighted is the stash of Work Units, measured in hours you can process. The client auto detects this and then downloads the appropriate amount.

Menu #3.

You should set the Priority level to about 4 or so. I suggest you go no higher than 5. The higher it is, the more priority it has to compute. Higher isn't always better. If you set it to like 10, you're system will lock up since your OS and everything else can't run.

There's nothing really important in Menu#4, but here it is anyhow.

Now that you set your e-mail address, how do you the DSLreports team?

You will need to wait a day or so (it's taken longer sometimes) for the stats server, »stats.distributed.net/rc5-64/tms···35018375 to update. This will show our team stats and rankings. Enter your e-mail address here,

then see if you show up. If you do, great, the stats server sees you!
Now you want your generated password. Open your personal stats, mine is here, for example, and scroll all the way down, then click on "email me my password". Give it some time to send you the mail, then just follow the instructions!
Once you set everything up, go back to the team stats page, scroll almost all the way down then click on "I want to join this team!".

Hopefully, if you decide to join us, we'll welcome you by MOOing, then show you the secret hand shake. Moo!
