My source tells me that it depends on how this is accepted in Reston.Va if they roll this out in other areas.:)
Confirmed here as well. So everyone in Reston, upgrade to gold NOW!

I want 16Mb speeds.

Wouldn't you rather go for FIOS? Its just as fast (DL) and faster (UL) for less $. That is assuming FIOS is available where you live. I'm sure these speeds are only being offered where Verizon FIOS is available.

And Comcast said they weren't worried about FIOS. :D

but fios is pppoe. pppoe sucks because your ip changes each time you log in and its very easily interupted. theyre switching to dhcp soon but until then i prefer the reliability of my comcast cable and its nearly static ip.

Most people don't like change. A similar speed with a current provider will keep most people from switching honestly. Also depending on how this trial ends up, we may see some more speed boosts.

My friend used to have Surewest fiber. His pings were amazingly low. He could ping from San Francisco to Dallas at about 20 ms. Try that with your comcast.

That is something I'm not sure works anymore. The thread »FAQ # 8987 - Using Docsdiag is seeing if it works for anyone at all.

Well, if anyone in the rollout area is using a Linksys BEFCMU10 v4, it will give most of the same info as using Docsdiag, except for Config file.

As example see image above.

ah well at least Comcast for the most part doesn't cherrypick as where to provide service...the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has let Verizon give them the business and not even gotten a reacharound

Ha.

When Comcast upgraded the last time, I found it interesting all the other counties in Md, seemed go get the speed increases before Mongomery County got thiers.

Now that FIOS is being deployed here as fast as they can; I can only presume the same thing is going to occur as to the 16/1 rates some folks in Va. are getting via Comcast.

Me, I doubt my connection will ever see the 16/1 or above connection from Comcast and further, I doubt I'll really care.

Oh boo woo... can someone please get me some tissues so I can blow my nose and dry my eyes because I'm laughing so hard?:D

I find it interesting that California is always last for any upgrade.

And Colorado is second to last.

Hey, I think we are onto something here... Someone is always first, and it's never me!

I know they're in sacramento, but i just said san francisco cause it's a major city.

My point though is the latency of fiber connections rival that of other kinds.

the latency on my comcast connection is fine. find me somthing that requires such a low latency. my comcast is low enough for all the stuff i do.

CA was last because they were on old ATTBI equipment and not on the CRAN. itll be a lot easier this time around.

hmm. What about us Silver people who pay $45/month? Do we now have to pay $60/month to get faster speeds than 6megs(after modem rental)?
