| SpeedStream 4200 & Syslog Output ??
Various literature states that the 4200 **can** output the Firewall Log to SYSLOG.
I hear from a couple of people that there is a way to turn this feature on via a CLI. There seems to be no way on the browser interface that I can see.
I would like help getting the firewall out automatically so we can ship reports to DShield again.

| That was useful. I tried to reply and discovered it was, uhmm too old. Any idea what commands in Telnet he used to "See" the IP was set to so and so on his 5200 ?? I have tried Telnet but haven't figured out what address or port is appropriate for this 4200 ... well, it's 192.168.254.254 ... but what port(s) to ask it questions? |

| reply to Doctor Olds Using your suggestions, I made it on to the box. It is difficult to stay on as there is some internal, seemingly random, timeout tht throws one out. I have a list of available commands but have not been able to stay on long enough to mao them all out.
What should I look for to activate syslog output?
xsh> do Available options: defcfg mfgcfg dhcpc ping tracert ppp arp sntpc napt dsl atm firmware reboot log
xsh>
mind you, the log command above works with certain other commands to display current settings or things like cumulative time up ...etc |

3 edits | Yes, you are not supposed to reply to any thread/topic over two weeks old according to the Efficient Forum posting Rules. Since people didn't pay attention, the system now blocks it from happening to old threads such as that one from 09-09-2003.
The CLI command is listed in the last post of the link I provided above. It is not a "do" command, it is a "cfg" command. It was found by searching the Forum as I suggested to you. That's really all I know as I told you in this other exact thread topic »[Siemens] SpeedStream 4200 & Syslog that you would simply have to search the Forum since the CLI is undocumented. It may or may not work with your program. It does work with Unix syslogd on the LAN side.
When you use Telnet (by typing minus the quotes "telnet 192.168.254.254") the program uses it's common known reserved port to connect to the IP or Domain Name that you type.
Common Application Ports quote:
Common Servers
FTP Server on your LAN IN TCP 21
POP3 Mail Server on your LAN IN TCP 110
SMTP Mail server" on your LAN IN TCP 25
TELNET Server on your LAN IN TCP 23
WEB Server on your LAN IN TCP 80
