| reply to norwegian It's referring to the 50-character limit of the Subject/title box when replying.
Your original post's title is "50 character limit" but when I reply it adds "Re: " to the beginning which increases the number of characters in that field. In your example, the "Re:" pushes you over the limit. -- "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." --Steven Wright |

Your answer still doesn't help me understand why it's started. Thanks for trying to help State |

| As far as I know the max-length restrictions have always existed (but is shortened server-side if it exceeds). The popup is something that Opera generated (see this thread: »Automatically shorten title replies ).
Have you enabled any sort of form validation options recently (or maybe upgraded your browser version where it may be enabled by default?) -- "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." --Steven Wright |

 | reply to norwegian I am running the latest Beta off Opera, State, it must be something related to the browser then, i'll look through the settings and see what i can find |
|
 | reply to norwegian I haven't done any changes of late, but after typing Opera:config, and trying a search for "form", every time i get to "m", the browser crashes, and microsoft error reporting pops up. Guess a search for it won't help, will have to do it the long way |

| Looks like it's an Opera bug feature...part of their Web Forms 2 implementation
There is at least one topic about it in the official Opera beta support site and this post by Tim Altman (one of the Opera QA guys) here in the newsgroups.
I've been poking around and haven't seen any workarounds posted for it.. Sorry -- "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." --Steven Wright |

 | reply to norwegian Thanks alot for some insight State, grateful for the help supplied by you. I think for now, i might just re-install V8.51, the joys of beta testing are too much. |

| Happy to help
Hopefully before their beta goes stable they'll add an option to disable those notifications. Probably wouldn't hurt to voice your opinion in their support forums. -- "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." --Steven Wright |

| reply to norwegian Seems that Opera has had issues with loading pages for a while. You gets used to these, builds character
Gone now i'm back to V8.51 Build 7712 , might mention this, but it sounds like they already know of the issue |

 | reply to norwegian Up date, State, i went to the link supplied, and passed the info on to Opera. |

justinAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:7 | reply to norwegian It is probably because opera is given a form with 51+ character title default in a field that has 50 set as maximum.
I've tweaked the title stuff both to increase the limit to 60 but also allow 64 if the title begins with "Re: " |

| reply to norwegian Justin, i thought that you might be able to do something like that, but where abouts is the settings, or did you have to create new ones, just out of curiousity ?. I had trouble just searching for "form" in the config, it crashed my browser ! I found there was more headaches with the last beta update anyway, even though it was faster when running.

Rob AJets AFC ChampionshipPremium join:2005-01-17 Pompton Plains, NJ 1 edit | reply to justin Justin, thanks for upping the limit. I'm not sure why opera does this in the preview versions of opera 9, but thanks for fixing it here.
Norwegian, there is no setting to change, opera 9 preview for some reason just doesn't support the automatic title shorten thing here, although I believe 8.52 does, I'm sure opera will fix the bug in the rendering engine soon enough. -- Spread Opera!
