Ok, I just got WB installed. The installer said everything was fine and I am in specs, but I find that my internet connection will just "freeze up" at random times requiring a reboot. This is on a brand new computer system that has just been formatted. My speeds are 120k down and 3k up.
Do you guys have any tips or tricks that I can try/check to see about tweaking or correcting my setup? |

| reply to Safron Did the installer actually show you the system was working and do some speed tests before he left? Sound rather strange he would say it met specs. Call the company that was responsible for the installation and tell them it is not working. Get a trouble ticket number so it is documented. If they can't get it working you got thirty days to back out. 1 edit | reply to Safron said by Safron :... my internet connection will just "freeze up" at random times requiring a reboot. As the Dr. asked, is it just your internet connection that freezes, or is it your entire computer? Can you execute non-internet applications OK when the freeze occurs?
If it's just the internet dropping out, Do you regain connectivity by rebooting your computer, while leaving the WB modem powered up? Do you have a router that is getting power cycled also?
You could call your installer and have them make sure your signal levels are all "in the green" on their SVT monitor. 3Kbps is unacceptably low, even on the most congested beams/times. |

| reply to Safron 3kBps uploads? yea, something's wrong there. your bandwidth and dropouts sound like an improper install. As was suggested, call them up and make sure you have a ticket issued for your problem (probably best to call WB and have them bug the installer). They can also test your signal strengths remotely... |

| reply to Safron Have had the trouble tickets open. WildBlue Tier 2 says that everything looks good on thier end. They suggested a format/reinstall of everything. That seemed kind of retarded to me. Everything else works fine. The internet freezing is intermittent and only happens when I am browsing (I dont do too much downloading). A reboot and modem reset always fixes the issue until it occurs again. I am just kind of fristrated with the tech support (I am no comoputer dummy and have had DirectWay before).
I was just wondering if there was anything I can check personally or anything I can do, other than stay on the tech support phone for hours at a time.
I searched, but didnt see a FAQ on things to do or look out for like the DirectWay forum has. SO, here I am.
Any ideas out there (besides send the whole damned thing back)? |

2. Reset NIC to 10 mbps at 1/2 duplex
3. Find a local computer geek |

| reply to Safron Safron: As one who come from Direcway to Wildblue as I did , I think if you can get it working correctly you will enjoy Wildblue. Wildblue has very few direct readouts such as signal strength that we as users can use to monitor system performance. That said however when it works it seems to work consistently better than I was used to with Direcway.
Since you are new install with my suspicions as to the cause of your problems would begin with the installation. Assuming that Tech Support is telling you pointing appears to be good, I would begin by checking the COAX cabling to make sure it is the proper type. There are several postings on this site that address better than I can what is required. In my case I changed the COAX and the COAX connectors myself when I knew I was going to switch to Wildblue. I did it while I still had Directway and just that change increased my signal strength markedly.
The other area that Wildblue seems susceptible to is in the area of grounding. I won't attempt to tell you what is required as there are many more qualified contributors to this site who can help you. There are several good posts regarding grounding already so start by reading those.
Good luck in getting it working properly. I think you will be glad you switched when you get it working right.
