[Q] Anyone played with this?

Looks interesting and I've heard some good things about it at xlr8yourmac. Looks like it was just made universal a few days ago as well.

Just downloaded it.

Edit:
Downloaded stable build. Put an XP Pro CD into my CD-ROM drive. Wouldn't boot - kept " shutting down" immediately after starting Q.

Edit2:
Downloaded unstable built. Running now. Installing XP Pro.

Haven't finished installing yet - but it looks very promising.

I think somebody needs to try it with a PowerPC. I don't have time right now, otherwise I'd be all over it.

Hmm... so this is like VPC? Except maybe better/faster?

If so, I'll definitely check it out later.

Using an OEM XP Pro with SP2 disk I tried to install it on my Intel Core Duo Mac using this program. Perhaps the stable build will work better when they get it working. God please forgive me for what I have done.

As we speak I am installing it on my 12" PB which has a 1.5Ghz G4, 768MB RAM, 80GB 5400RPM Hard Drive. It is installing as I type. Seems faster than VirtualPC.

On PPC probably not better or faster, but on intel, there's no more "emulate x86 on a PPC processor" overhead, so it should scream. I'd love to see some reports from anyone that gets this working on an intelmac.

JW, do you have Windows 2000 or anything a bit more ancient?

I was just looking for my old copy of Windows 2000 but I couldn't find it so I think I am stuck w/ only my XP Pro OEM CD. I think it may feel faster on my PPC because I have more RAM in this PB than in my last one plus it has a faster hard drive. Also "Q" seems a little... simpler... than VPC which may help with the speed. It was definitely fast on my Core Duo.

If Q is as fast on OS X as QEMU is on Linux or windows then "scream" isn't a term I'd use to describe the performance. vmware is significantly faster.

Well right now I am going to describe it as "non-functional" as it continually just stopped on my PB and had that strange error on my iMac Core Duo.

Hmmm. I'm trying to install win98se and no matter what I do it seems to think I only have a ~1mb partition (Yeah, I tried a RAW hd too).

I'll have to see if I have another win98se disk lying around somewhere...

urg, not necessarily true... if this code is not universal binary.. it will most likely run through Rosetta.. an emulator running an emulator... NOT pretty.

I think the unstable is supposed to be universal.

Haven't used Qemu on anything, but I was assuming (oops) that it was comparable to VMWare, speedwise. Is it more like Bochs?

QEMU is a processor emulator like bochs so it isn't fast. An accelerator exists for it but I haven't tried it. Its supposed to make it quite a bit faster.
