| EL - $149.95 Early Term Charge - Why?
I'm just now getting ready to pay some bills and reviewing my CC acount to find a $190.91 carge from Earthlink on 2/6/06.
They've charged me for monthly dsl service PLUS $149.95 Early Termination Fee.
News Flash ! I've never terminated!
My account with EL goes back to March of 2002.
Anybody else seeing these types of charges showing up on their still active accounts?
I'm wondering if this is some "creative" method for EL to bump their revenue during a slow quarter.
There has to be some type of audit trail (or should be but probably isn't) that would show how this was triggered and by who. |

Did you by any chance change your phone service or change your phone number?
Did you renew your contract in the last 12 months?

Are you sure? A charge back request is after you have tried to work out a problem charge with a merchant and get no where.

| reply to McWizzard I was mistakenly charged an early termination fee by EL once. I believe I got it resolved through one of the EL techs we've had in the forum. -- We're going to Texas. |

Regards, Doctor Olds The charge back just puts the amount in dispute. You have 60 days to do one, otherwise the charge becomes permanent, even if it was in error. There is often no telling how long these things take to be corrected. It can't hurt to do a charge back in the meantime to protect your rights. The credit card company will be contacting the merchant anyway. |

If it was a billing error by Earthlink, it would be wise, and probably less messy to just call and inquire. |

It is very wise to notify your CC company and let them know that you intend to dispute the charge from EL. That's the start of a fairly lengthy process (depending upon your CC company) that can lead to a charge back.
If EL doesn't fix it on their end and you do not dispute the charge within the time alloted by your CC company, then you are completely SOL. Disputing the charge AND contacting EL is the appropriate course of action. -- Don't blame me. I voted for the one with a brain. |

If you accept you will give Earthlink a free loan. |
