You have 60 days to do one, otherwise the charge becomes permanent, even if it was in error. There is often no telling how long these things take to be corrected. It can't hurt to do a charge back in the meantime to protect your rights. The credit card company will be contacting the merchant anyway. |

It is very wise to notify your CC company and let them know that you intend to dispute the charge from EL. That's the start of a fairly lengthy process (depending upon your CC company) that can lead to a charge back.
If EL doesn't fix it on their end and you do not dispute the charge within the time alloted by your CC company, then you are completely SOL. Disputing the charge AND contacting EL is the appropriate course of action.

Earthlink will try to get you to accept service credit instead of a charge back refund.
