Re: Dale Begg-Smith, Adscpm Spyware King wins Olympic Gold There was nothing hysterical, almost or in any other measure, in original post. Nothing whatsoever. If anything it was possibly with a bit passion in attempt to raise the awareness about somebody whose previous dealing helped him in becoming a n Olympic winner. If he didn't have the money to train and fund what is an expensive sport would he have been successful. Plenty other athletes fail exactly because of lack of or due to insufficient funds
It matters, a lot, where and how the funds are obtained if it didn't money laundering wouldn't be illegal.

It might be of interest to note that Australia only has about 4 locations where skiing is possible. The ski "season" in Australia is very short - June - September - and it often fails completely due to lack of snow in the skifields. We have neither the altitude, nor the latitude, for skiing to be much more than a hobby.
Consequently skiing is an extremely expensive sport, realistically only available to a limited number of people.
Anyone training for an Olympic level event is going to need to travel frequently overseas and stay for long enough to develop and continue a training regime. An internet business is one of the few ways of earning a living that could support a skiing or snow sport career. The closest serious snowfields are in New Zealand.
Sadly, I have to acknowledge that even non-consenting spyware installation is not pursued by the authorities in any way and there are very few moves in Australia for legislative control:(
I'm wondering why someone that is an Olympic level athlete would choose Australia as a place to reside |

 | reply to capdjq That's interesting! Note: That article posted on Feb. 16, one of the very first raising questions
From the "flattering article" ...the end of which states: quote: Begg-Smith moved to Australia as a 15 year old with his older brother after deciding they could no longer participate in the Canadian moguls skiing program because it clashed with their business interests.
The pair run an internet advertising company which buys internet pop-up advertising and is reportedly worth $40 million.
The company, which the brothers established when Begg-Smith at age 13, has been the source of much speculation, and was again in the post-event media conference.
Begg-Smith fielded as many questions about the nature of the business as he did about winning a gold medal.
I have to wonder about that. They moved from Canada to Australia because it interfered with their business? -- It takes a disaster to make a woman out of a female Microsoft MVP/Windows Security 2003-2006 Proud Member of ASAP (Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals) |

 | Sounds like the authorities were already looking into them or laws were past that made what they were doing illegal. Australia must of been a place where they could continue what they were doing within "legal" bounds. There needs to be a large drive for some one to move from cold Canada to blazing hot Australia on the other side of the world. That kind of a move is not something done in a mere whim or a slight conflict of interest. If this was a normal conflict of interest a person would just drop one of their hobbies and continue as normal. They moved to the other side of the world. -- That light that you see at the end of the tunnel. You know that reealy bright one; well its not salvation. Its the 6 o'clock freight train |
