| reply to timpani1 Re: SF/Oak Bay Area Comcast - Worst Service Ever
Im a tech support person in dayton ohio, and i am running the technology for a distance learning class where the professor is in the bay area. Every time we try to hold the class, the video feed goes down or freezes. I have done a traceroute and have never gotten a single packet to make the trip from here to there without a problem. First theres a slowdown in chicago, and then the packet times out in california, three or four hops away from his ISP.
UGH what a pain! And i can see that it definately goes through a comcast server..... |

| reply to tutaka I live in Vacaville as well, and this has been going on for a while now. Chatted with a Comcast tech last night, and they have been as helpless as usual. We know there's an outage, blah blah blah, and have no clue when it will be fixed. For the $56 a month I'm paying for the 5 Mbit connection I should be getting, this is pretty pathetic. I'm trying to get a credit for my service, and I know this has been going on since at least the end of last year. Oversubscription on the part of Comcast is getting out of hand. Enough people complain, then the SOP seems to be that they band aid a solution for a couple of weeks until the connection craps out again. What amazes me even more is that while this slowdown occurs almost every night, their network health page always reads "Healthy." What a joke....Judging from the number of posts on their forums that show transcripts of chat w/ their techs, all they know how to do is blame it on your modem, even when you have tracert proof that it points to the AT&T backbone. |

| reply to ramell Well this is not just on the west coast. I live in Nasville Tn. and I am having the same issues in the evening. When a tech was out here he called someone on his phone and let me listen. The boss said they know they are having a problem in the evening but they do not know why and are trying to fix it. Which like most of you I do not believe. Every night I call and complain to keep pressure on them. Also I ammaking them send a tech out at night during the slow time to see for them selves. I wish I could change but their is no other decent option right now. |

| reply to aohus Wow, I'm very sorry to hear that you guys in the west coast (and I guess other areas) are having this issue...again...
I was with Comcast a while back until I was able to jump ship when an ISP (which will remain nameless to protect the innocent) came to the rescue. Before I switched, it was around the time they (Comcast) did the push to 6Mbit/768Kbit (~1 yr ago?). The evenings were horrible. The latency and packet drops were unbearable to the point where my connection would be completely unusable. It took them a few months to address the issue.
Good luck, truly, to you guys and I hope these issues are resolved soon. -- Ricardo

| reply to alex c7 I live in Vacaville and pay for a 8000/780 connection. I have had service now for less than a month. (I started with a 6000/360, after a week the connection that was so bad I changed to 8000/780, real bad idea.) I just knew the numbers couldn't be right. But after repeated speed tests at dsl reports indicating that a 8000/780 could actually be, at most times a 420/430, or 647/290, or 825/341 connection. With a spike to 8204/732 at 2 am. I have been with comcast less than a month. They made statements about what speed I would have and how much it would cost. Only to find that what they tell you and what you get doesn't match. In less than a month I received no less than 2 statements one for $69.84 and one for $95.84. The 8000/780 connection I was told I would get for the trial price didn't happen. Frustrated, I upgraded to the 8000/780 and 5 days later received the 2nd statement. It seems to be endless, the problems. So I'm cutting my loss for now and canceling as soon as the dsl line is in. They shouldn't be getting away with overselling a service at the expense of us all. We need to wake up and just not stand for the BS and do without (I know some would go through withdrawals) until they fix it. If everyone called to cancel their sub. at the same time, how long would it take before they fixed it? My guess would be asap and to hell with the cost. |
