Yes, you were given many reasonable explanations for why free hosting is not always a great value. All I want to do is tell people about my hosting, afterall that's what this forum is for. I don't really care about why it's going to fail and why I'm wasting my time.
Sheesh, these forums are so hard to get along with people in.

Good to know you guys care and I do realize what you're saying about being gone the next day, which won't happen as long as I can get some members. So what is your business model? Get lots of people to post and read, somehow causing your click-through ad revenue to skyrocket and somehow pay for your hosting and also buy you a new car? All without you lifting a finger? Oh wait you have to keep an eye on all your customers... some of them may get silly and run you out of bandwidth or something and you will be entirely justified by terminating their free accounts.
You can get shared web hosting for ~$3/month... is spending all that time (minutes? hours?) reading and posting worth $3 to your customers? Ah, but what about people who don't have a credit card and can't use their mom's? There's your market.
So your customers are the people who are motivated enough to really want to post on your pretty much vacant board, but aren't motivated enough to pay $3/month (3 double bacon cheeseburgers) for hosting, and don't really mind all that much if their site disappears tomorrow.
Or have I got it all wrong? -- Give ya an example, show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either.

| I was thinking about this over night.
Gentlemen, we have an opportunity here. This guy already has his reseller account, and he's on the hook for that every month (or maybe he prepaid). Either way, we know he has put cash into this. He speaks rather well for himself, doesn't lose it when we jump all over him. He has enough going in the technical side to get this far. Let's assume for a moment that maybe he's ok on facilities, technical knowledge, and even temperament. So it isn't all bad.
We know his current business model just ... uhh.... high risk... lots of work... ummm I'll go with that his business model is not assured success in the marketplace.
So. An alternate plan. Here's what I was thinking. First of all, forget the free hosting. You will only get the worst of the bottom feeder part of the market. Leave that end of things to people who can make money in it because they have gawdawful volume.
Instead, cater to just above that, the guy who wasn't ready to spend $6/month to have what he really needs. Let's say you go $3/month, but you have to buy blocks of 6 months at a time, that's $18. Or maybe you go $2/month, $24/year.
Now for payment plans, you have to be able to be flexible. Screw credit cards, those guys will go to another market. You want the market for the guy or gal without a credit card. You can resell domain names to them.
Take whatever payment you can. Set up a PO box. Take checks. Use Paypal (but charge 50 cents more a month to take it). Use your friends. Get that crazy uncle geezer guy that always reeks of Guinness to move his site, he pays you in beer or cash or his collection of Star Wars on DVD. Use your imagination.
Have a reasonable simple TOS that people will read, then stick to it. State that you will send a (pro-rated) refund if you cancel their service for TOS violations.
When the time runs out, pow, send email and take the web site offline, leave the email running. That will leave the communication lines open, then you either get you paid again OR you can ditch the account.
I think something like that would be successful. Or at least it has a chance to be successful. What do the rest of you think? -- Give ya an example, show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either.

You made a false claim that the hosting was free in the subject of your post to get people to read it. What else do you expect?
On the technical side, how many terrabytes can each database be? Is their size included in the total hosting size? Any limits on queries per second or disk or time use by a single query? What database server software and version? If MySQL, is InnoDB available? Is penetration testing or verification of the database server acceptable? Any limits on CPU, RAM or disk seek use?
Why don't you allow links to sites selling music in the MP3 format? Is linking to sites selling it in the OGG or FLAC formats OK?
I expect that I'm not the only person here who's been paid to do what you consider "free" - managing and posting to message boards. You're offering a rate a few hundreds of times less than the one I expect for such services.

| I totally understand what everyone is saying. There's no way I would be able to pay for the server. There are about 4 or 5 hosting services on the server, 3 of which are free. All of them have some ads on them that bring in money. Also, we're trying to start a paid hosting service to bring in some more money to help pay for it.
Another reason I like the forum idea is the fact that I want an active community. There's no scamming about this.
