Its Comcast -- believe me...I've been through 4 modems, 2 sets of cat 5 cable, with and without router testing, a new drop installed at my house completely (pole & house), all splitters and cables changed to new, and about 10 tech visits and 2 line tech visits....... After all this, has to be a Comcast issue.....everything has been changed on my end ....everything. |

Including your computer and the choice of software you are running on it? Just asking. I am not saying that Comcast is perfect - there could very well be an issue, however, if you are going to make that statement, I am just curious if what I asked has also been done. |

| reply to aliasrlz The reason I asked is that there could be several reasons for this problem. You want to eliminate all on your end. I have found you are better off when you get involved. Make them do more than just replace parts. For instance did they check signal levels? I would check your signal levels as well. How many splits do you have before you get to your modem? You want as few as possible. One would be ideal. I would also make them rerun the cable and not just change splitters and that includes inside the house. Have you also tried tweaking your PC? There are adjustments that may need to be made for you get get your speed. When I got moved up to the 8Mbps speed I had to tweak my XP box again to take advantage of the higher speed. Go to Broadband Tweaks and post your Answers to 11 questions. I also hear that ZoneAlarm can effect connection speeds on some PCs. You can't just turn it off you have to uninstall it. I personally had issues with Nortons Security Suite on one of my machines. If you have any "Security Suite" I would remove it. Not only do they cause problems but they are resource hogs. Lastly spyware or adware or malware can all bog things down. I would get yourself some good scanners and clean it out. Spybot, Ad-Aware and A squared are free and really good. I use them but you can pick ones you like. Feel free to contact me if you need a hand or have any questions. |

| reply to aliasrlz Look, I"m not about to go through all this again......the service was near flawless until the damn tier upgrades, then everything went to shyt......
Its NOT MY HARDWARE ......or the O/S.....give me a break! I've been there, done that 100x in the Comcast HSI forum.
For those who needed an O/S install (to fix their cable issues), then keep the spyware and viruses OFF your crap --- I never had this issue. I ain't no newbie to PCs, DSL or Cable.....
Signal Levels, splitters, ZoneAlarm, router, all that has been checked, removed (to eliminate possibility), or not applicable.....ITS NOT THESE! Again, I"m not a noob ......
Right now, I believe it is an imbalance in my line signal (external to house) .....too high on one end......causing me to lose connectivity... |
