Moto 5100 Voice enabled Cable Modem(VeCM) , Phone calls log?

Hi All,

I am using Moto 5100 Series VeCM Modem for both Internet access and Digital Voice(Telephone). I want to log telephone calls that are made thru this device. Is it there any solution?

I need some solution very badly to monitor both incoming and outgoing calls, in fact i use a telephone device with caller id. but my roommates deletes the incoming and outgoing calls, once they made calls in/out. When i go back to home and check my caller id , nothing is listed. I want to know how i can access these in/outgoing calls? please suggest.

I am thinking if i can access the cable modem over the internet using the public ip assigned by the ISP (when the PC is switched off, cable modem holds the public ip), i may find some softwares to log the incoming and outgoing calls!? But i don't know it is possible or not!?

Please reply with a solution/suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't your VoIP provider provide a call logging capability?

Hi, Thanks for your prompt reply.

I have checked with my service provider, unfortunatly they don't have phone call log service for digital voice land phones. They suggest me to use a caller id, which i am already unsing.

Thanks.

Any logging using the modem itself would likely be thru your provider; and it sounds like you've already gone down that dead-end road.

The only other alternatives of which I'm aware -- assuming you keep your current provider -- is to purchase "customer side" equipment (e.g. a different phone) which will log the calls AND prevent erasure of the incoming log. You might be able to use a similar external CID box to record incoming calls.

You could probably find out & keep track of the information you're looking for by using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). However, most ISPs block SNMP so it might not work for you.

You would need to know the read community string (probably public) and the OID of the thing you're trying to read. You can try to find out if SNMP is blocked by doing a "snmpwalk" on the public ip and see if you get back anything.
