Maybe there is a reason they told you that. If you're wanting to run 2 modems and pay for 2 internet accounts, then good for you. If you're needing it for 2 computers and you're ok with buying and running a router, then good for you.
Chances are, the first 4 guys were trying to help save you money, and the fifth wanted the commission for selling you a second internet account, if that is what you did.
Too lazy? Possible, but it takes 2 to 3 minutes to create the work order, get the modem serial, and post the work order off. Not too hard.
