[BOINC] Starting new work units

How come some times when BOINC switches projects it starts a new work unit (or whatever they are called now!) instead of resuming the paused one?

Also, I just checked "messages" in KBoincSpy and noticed that at one point both projects were paused due to the computer being overcommitted. Given that the computer wasn't in use at the time - all it was doing was crunching - how could it be overcommitted?

Re: [BOINC] Starting new work units

All of my computers say they are over committed but I have never seen them doing nothing except when boinc is running benchmarks.

overcommited = don't download any more work, the boinc project manager has determined you already have more than you need.

Ah, OK - that makes sense. Thanks!

Overcommitted is easy--your machine bit off more than it can chew within the deadlines for the wu.

An overcommitted machine will also select the wu with the earliest due date, so may in fact leaving one "hanging" not to miss the deadline on another.

Solution: in General Preferences, lower the number of days between connections. 5-7 is usually about right for the machines you have.
