How to get noticed in the webhosting forum..

These have been posted in the past in various boards and there’s even a site FAQ about it but I believe it’s time for another “How to get noticed” thread with a little webhosting spin.

So without further ado, how to get noticed in the DSLR webhosting forum:

The Good Way:
• Post helpful, well articulated thoughts. Back them up with concrete evidence.
• Research claims made and provide the results, be it good bad or ugly.
• Stay on topic when the thread strays, use the ‘hey-mods’ feature when things start falling apart.
• Keep a cool head when responding to others, especially when the going gets rough.
• You know what it means to "Agree to disagree".
• You're polite, friendly, and enjoy interacting with other people.
• Don't misrepresent yourself as a client or prospective client when you're really the provider.
• Above all, be honest!

The Bad Way:
• Get inducted into the »Webhosting FAQ »Hosting hall of shame
• Create a new user account and on the same day pretend to be a prospective customer to drive traffic to your site.
• Offer unlimited disk space and bandwidth
Lash out at anyone who questions what you provide. Calling names helps.
• Offer hosting on your cable connection even though it’s not allowed.
• Post about how to avoid trademark violations, and then violate said trademark anyways.
• Post referral links in your offerings.
• Offer hosting services and hide your whois information
• Offer hosting services and falsify your whois information.

edit: links broke! fixed 'em

Re: How to get noticed in the webhosting forum..

I'm not sure what it is that attracts so many people to web hosting. Perhaps they think they can just rent a server, resell it to others and make a tidy profit while doing little work in the process. Well those people are in for a wake up call. Web hosting might be an easy business to start, but if you aren't committed to hard work and don't have good people skills you won't last.

Anyone that starts a business has to be prepared to receive criticism, but those businesses involving the internet should expect to recieve the most. If you don't have what it takes then you better look for another side job.
