| you will need to provide more information...what are the "boxes," what VOIP carrier are you intending to use and have you opened an account and made payment arrangements, are you using regular phones into an ATA or softphones, etc. basics.

| Thanks. Sorry I ommited the obvious... But - that is not my problem ( I have installed hundreds of VoIP ATAs). What I am asking is for someone who is familar with the different ADSL ISPs there - do they use PPPoE? Are there any issues with port blocking etc. |

| reply to Walla Typically it's authenticated PPPoA. You need the ADSL account's userID and password if you use the ATA directly behind the DSL modem. If it fails: Put a router in between that you know works and retry.... With T-DSL all ports are open (it's being resold in many falvours, e.g. 1und1, gmx, etc.). -- I am addicted to speed --- OOL speed that is --- |

| T-dsl uses pppoe. Pppoa has the advantage of less overhead since there is no need to packetize to reach atm since you go directly onto atm. Therefore one gets higher speeds.
Nota bene to others: t-dsl is the brand name of adsl supplied by deutsche telekom in germany. You won't see that name elsewhere.

user name password service ID
Here in Israel we leave the service ID empty. Do we do the same in Germany?? |

|
ejrobinson Premium join:2003-05-16 Miami Beach, FL | The modem itself has enough space for the numbers. If not, you should change the adsl modem.

ejrobinson Premium join:2003-05-16 Miami Beach, FL | I'm confused about what your setup is. As I said, logon to adsl is through the modem, not an ata or a router.

| now i am confused according to what you say you can't use a router in Germany or are all modems there used as routers. How do you get an IP address for each device if you only use a modem which is usually set up as a bridge like it is in Israel. My question is how do devices get IP address through DHCP in Germany |
