Can't Resolve Site - Comcast DNS Changes?

Tried Comcast Live Chat (India?):

"Unfortunately, I do not have tools at my disposal to assist with DNS problem. My apologies for this inconvenience."

When I look here, I see that Comcast is changing DNS servers? How long until they repoll everything? The site in question is reachable via any proxy/service other than Comcast - how do I get it reincluded? Or is it just a matter of time? It's been unresolvable via Comcast for over 48 hours now...

Is that correct what you posted.

@comcast.net
yes - maybe I should clarify - any canonical name is failing, ie:

www.
ftp.

etc...

Non-authoritative answer:

Hopefully Comcast will fix it soon!

Seem to be able to resolve it just fine, using the national Comcast DNS servers.

Comcast has de-commisioned some DNS servers, they sent out an e-mail to people they thought had it statically set.

So you might have to wait for the info to re-populate.

Don't like that?
Think it should happen faster?

Tough. Get a T-1.

I had that problem tonight too, I have my own DNS server at the house, and couldn't resolve any addresses unless i used the comcast dns addresses for my requests.. don't quite understand that. As soon as I switched to theirs, everything was fine, but i hate using theirs.

Maybe you missed the whole Comcast DNS Mishap a few months back that scared a lot of people off Comcast DNS Servers?

Because they're unreliable, and are slow to update. That's why I'd rather use my own or ones I know work.

Can you do an nslookup to any sites using other dns servers.

IE: "nslookup www.ulticom.com 4.2.2.1"

I run my own locally caching DNS server on my LAN. I also host my own zone for my LAN, home.lan, which obviously isn't propagated.

Assuming you use BIND 8 or BIND 9, consider using the `forwarders` clause to refer to Comcast's servers. This should help alleviate issues... unless, of course, the Comcast DNS servers you use are broken.

Did you set up the DNS servers manually?

I've got the same setup you have, cept i'm using klappy.local which isnt propagated, then 2 servers running primary/secondary DNS, which are also my mail and webservers.
I thought about that, then I was like.. well if the comcast forwarders go down, i'm screwed there again.. so i changed them to sprintlink's dns.. (Which, I've never had a problem with at all)

I had been using the 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2 servers for a long time, but recently (a day or two ago) I started experiencing problems. I changed to nearby servers (speakeasy) and use the comcast for backup (and cache dns in my router).

That seems to have solved my problems. Why the 4221 & 4222 servers started flaking out I dont know why. Maybe comcast is doing something to that traffic, who knows.
