A few overlooked facts

1. Yes, you will be able to play all your old games: PSX and PS2.

2. We all saw not more then a day after the release of the Xbox360, it stripped down and dismantled. What we all noticed is that it used your standard ATA6 laptop hard drive. That ment just like the first one you can upgrade it and hack it quite easily. Sony shall avoid this with the use of EEPROM, this shall allow the use of the same 20GB of space that the Xbox uses. This means it will be extremely hard to hack it since you can't just flash it and install what you wish, but it towers over MS in knowing that you will never have a scratched hard drive platter. It's the beauty of no moving parts.

3. We all know the blu-ray drive is estimated at $1,000 USD, so even if sony is selling the PS3 for $500, they are losing well more then just the $500 on blu-ray. You forget to take into account all the other expense there are to make the system itself. Merrill Lynch is projecting losses of 1.18 billion in year 1, 730 million in year 2 and 457 million in year 3. By comparison, Sony's profits in the past three years has been about 1.86 billion. If the PS3 doesn't start turning a serious profit in year 4, Sony's bank accounts could start drying up. So yes sony in banking on the hope that gamers and fanboys alike shall go out and get the PS3.

4. There was mention of Xbox 360 eventually selling the system with the HD-Drive built in. Gates has already said that they won't be doing this. Now considering I don't trust gates as far as I can throw him, this is probably true. It just means they can completely focus on any issue with the current model and have another department make an External drive. And there is a perfect reason for this. Heating Issues. Our friends over at the Hard[OCP] did the same thing they did for the Original xbox and Water Cooled it. Here is the link for the article »console.hardocp.com/article.html···b25zb2xl
Right now you could already cook eggs on the 360 after an hour of gaming, why make it more likely to heat up with a more powerful drive in there. Besides we all know microsoft better then that. They will just create a new bundle with the external drive for a higher price.

Remember until the working model is in your local video games store we can't confirm anything under the hood of this console. Everything is speculation.

Granted, i don't like microsoft all that much, and I currently don't own or even want a xbox 360.

There's something fishy about what sony's trying to accomplish. When you keep lying publically about release dates of things it kinda hurts your company. They'll scratch their head and call it "estimations," and push it off as something they couldn't predict.

If what we know now is true, and they're pushing for an autumn release, its for one reason, and its the same reason everyone's complaining about. Price.

Everyone knows that technology has a certain decay or turn over rate. Its just a given by todays standards, buy something new, its already out dated. This 900 and 1k figure people are throwing around is if it was pushed NOW. Logically if they let it sit another half a year, the price is just going to plummet dramatically. Not to mention every other little part in their system.

Yea, sony's still going to take a hit, but by draggin their feet like their doin right now, its saving them money.

Biggest thing that worriest me here is the whole blue ray thing.

Seems to me Sony is trying to hit the HD market, prolly more then the video game market. If they really wanted both markets, they could use some old tech from their ps2, and design a swappabled Dvd player and release the Blue ray later in the year.

They won't do it for 2 reasons, if not more.

1. If they allow options, they have less control over their product.

2. Its not cost effective. Look at it this way, Either way sony plays it, there's going to be a limited amount of consoles. With the blue ray, not only are gamers and fanboys on board, now we have every dvd enthuisiast. Economics 101 guys, big demand, limited amount of product, price jumps. Everyone saw what was happening with the 360's on release. Same thing, think worse. No blue ray at launch, but later put in as an upgrade, we still have 360 on release day, just not as bad as the previous mentioned scenario.
