| Office network with ZTE ZXDSL 831 default gateway problem
Hello, I am new here, and guess I could do with some help. I am running the aboved router/modem to a 5 port switch splitting to 2 PCs, one running 192.168.1.4 and another 192.168.1.3. 192.168.1.4 is running a internal mail server thats needs to be connected to internal to retrieve external mails, and 192.168.1.3 is running the internet for users in the company with Winproxy running. I have a local domain on 192.168.1.1.
My ISP static ip is 202.122.90.56 - 60, DNS server 202.122.90.55.
Problem is the default gateway for my LAN. When I set it to 192.168.1.4 on that PC running x.x.1.4 and PC running x.x.1.3, either 1 of the PCs will get request timeout when I ping a site after some time. I have 5 static IPs given by my ISP meaning I could run all 5 simultaneously on seperate PCs rite?
I tried putting the default gateway at 192.168.1.9 which doesnt exists (no PC connected), and it worked fine with both the 1.4 and 1.3 running without timeouts. Now my question is will it cause any problems since I am pointing the default gateway at an non-exist PC/IP? Will it affect my LAN on sharing, etc?
I am really a n00b at this, any help appreciated, thanks again. |
